3v3 Wave Game (15 mins)

Organisation:

  • 3v3 Small Sided Game
  • Option is to play winner stays on or both teams go off once a score/time limit is reached. (Max time 2 mins for players being inactive)

Modify:

  • Make 2v2/4v4

Attacking KP's:

  • Quality Passing - Timing, Weight, Accuracy (+10 years)
  • Soft touches - control
  • Big touches - to go past the defender
  • Change of speed/direction to beat opponent
  • Movement to Receive (+11 years)
  • Playing with head up - scanning

Defending KP's:

  • Delay
  • Show away from goal
  • Pressing - who, why, where
  • Cover & balance - teammates
  • 'High to low' & 'Fast to slow' 'jockey'

Transition KP's:

  • Quick Reaction to winning/losing possession
  • Can we regain possession quickly (defenders)?
  • Can we play forward and score quickly (attackers)?

Questions:

8 VS 6 function 1 (20 mins)

Organisation:

  • 8 vs 6 Function
  • Ball always starts with the GK, who decides to pass to the RCB or LCB. If he passes to the RCB, the blue LB and yellow RM are out of the game and can not be used in this play. If the keeper passes to the LCB, the blue RB and yellow LW are out of the game for this play.
  • The game is played inside 2/3 of the pitch
  • Once passed, the yellow 9 arcs his run to force them one way. This is the trigger for the MF players to get on the correct side of their man
  • Wingers should be half and half, so they can cut a pass off into the goal, but also get to the FB quick enough if the RCB passes to him
  • Once yellows win the ball, they have 10 seconds to score, as they have won the ball high and want to exploit the spaces

Attacking KP's:

  • Change of speed/direction
  • Positive 1st touch, drive at the defender.
  • Movement/Support from teammate
  • Communication

Defending KP's:

  • Angle/Arc run to show attacker away from goal.
  • Body shape - side on.
  • Fast to show, high to low.
  • Covering player positioning
  • Make field small

Transition KP's:

  • Quick reaction to transition
  • Can we pass forward/score quickly (attack)
  • Can we regroup quickly (defence)

Questions:

  • Why would we arc or angle our run when pressing an attacker?
  • What are the signs that we can step direct and fast vs angling our run?

8 vs 6 function 2 (20 mins)

Organisation:

Same as above for initial set-up, but this time all players are involved at all times.

Scenario -

  • GK plays to RCB
  • Players move to correct side of player like last time
  • This time, the RW now moves inside into the shaded space
  • This can stop a pass going to the LCB, but also allows the RW to put pressure on the CDM if he receives the ball and has a bad touch
  • Timing and decision making is important here. If he is unsure, then he should stay with the LB and allow the LCB to get the ball and keep shape until next time
