- 9 v 9
- Area set up as per the image, with the players set up in a 1-3-2-3 formation
- 1st Half Scenario: Both Teams are battling for a play off place. Red Team are losing 1-0, Emphasis is on the them. Winner takes all.
- Blues will be encouraged to defend deep and look to hit the reds on the counter attack
Key Points:
- With the blues defending deep the reds will need to move the ball at a high tempo, in order to disrupt the shape and compactness of the blues.
- They will need to be patient in looking for openings to penetrate using clever combinations
- Clever movement, the reds will need to look for space in between the lines to collect the ball on the half turn. From that trigger the reds will need to create width and depth with their movement to find a way through.
- Reds will need to be aware not to over commit and leave themselves open to the counter attack
2nd Half Scenario: The score is now 1-1 and both teams are attacking for the winning goal, with the emphasis still on the red team.
- Reds will now need to be disciplined in and out of possesion. Quickly recovering compactness when play is turned over and disciplined when in possession to not commit too many bodies forward.
- Blues will be encouraged to play direct and early on transition.
Session Objectives:
- Reds play at match tempo in possession with early switches of play
- Reds show patience and inventiveness in possession with clever movement and combination play to penetrate the blues
- Reds to have balance in attack and defence when in possession, being alert to the threat of the counter attack at all times
- Reds are clinical with their finishing when opportunities to score arise.
