Organisation
Create a larger area 40x40m and within that area create a smaller area 20x20m.
Form two teams -Red x8; Blue x 5.
Place 3 x Red players within the smaller area, together with 5 x Blue players, and 5 x Red players outside the smaller area, but within the larger area.
Instructions
Play commences within the smaller area, with the Blue team in possession and seeking to keep possession only within the smallera area.
The 3 x Red defenders try to win the ball, and once they do so, they can pass to their teammates outside the smaller area. Now, the Red team try to maintain possession - within the larger area (which includes the smaller area). If the Blue team gain possession, they seek to return to the smaller area - whereupon the game continues as a 5 v 3 within the smaller area again until the Red team win the ball. Any 3 - but only 3 - red players can become defenders within the smaller area.

Progression 1
Place goals at opposite ends of the squares.
Introduce a Goalkeeper in each goal..
Commence play as previously with the Blue team seeking to retain possession within the smaller area. When Red team win the ball, they too seek to retain possession, with the aim of 10 consecutive passes to score a goal. If they succeed, play recommences with the bBlue team once again in the smaller area. However, if, after the Red team have won possession, they win the ball back, their aim is now to seek to score in either goal, which the Red team attempt to prevent with quick transition.
Further Progressions
As above, but limit the Blue team to score in one of the goals within 10 seconds in order to impose further pressure on the Red team to transition quickly.

Analysis
The Negative Transition - Analysis
Barcelona's main aim during the negative transition was the immediate regaining of possession - to do so, there was always a safety player neasr the ball zone, as well as a quick reaction from all the players.
The safety player would also have the appropriate position in order to apply pressure on the ball by reducing the available time and space of the opponent in possesion.
But - in order to be successful, all players should take part.
