Combination Play
Set up pentagon of cones with a player on each, starts with player 1 playing a one time ball into the feet of 2, he plays a ball back into 1, who then passes 3. Player 1 takes the position of player on cone ready for next ball. Repeats around shape.
P1 - repeat other direction
P2 - now set to put players into positions on a match to develop understanding

Combination Play - long to short pass
Long pass to short pass, need to wait a little longer as more players need to get into position, only 3 balls in grid at one time
1 plays to 3 back 2, who passes long to 4. 1 takes the place of 2 on the cone ready for the next ball to be played in

Combination Play using middle players (3)
Using combination of short and long combinations, can the players go round the pentagon using the middle players for give and go's, return passes and giving options and angles of support each play
One time or quick passing, all players work hard off the ball to make sure there is 2-3 options per play.
Play one ball in and move to second ball introduction when comfortbale with play and ball at head of diamond
P1 - reverse the drill
P2 - add in 2-3 attackers - passive, only tackle when they have the ball (cannot stop when travelling) and full defensive (defenders can attack the goal if they want)

Combination Passing Drill into Phase of Play
Put opposition GK in and defensive mannequinns into a back 3 - game related challenge
Play either side up to and including player 3 (the pass back from the head of the diamond at 4)
Options - discuss... use board
1 - 3 can play long ball to 5 and switch play to other wing (he can then set 6 or bring A into play)
2 - 3 can play through ball into 4 behind mannequin (defence)
3 - 3 can play to B (various options afterwards - play back to 3 or 5 or 4 or play through ball for 3,4 or 5 behind back 3
4 - reverse ball into 2 making overlap run behind full back or just a set back ball to 2
Repeat on other side
Stress- key is not overplaying in the wrong areas and moving ball forward at the opotune moment (not go back or sideways more than 2 twice without going forward)
Confidence to pass and play but keep in mind penetration into final third and score is ultimate aim
Let play develop after a few initial passes, look for link up play/runs between 4 & C
Creativity & flair in shaded area
P1 - put in 2-3 passive and then active defenders into drill in addiiton to mannequinns - these defenders must only work in front of back 3 and cannot enter shaded area
P2 - once comfortable with play, look for player to react to ball into final third and move to support play - trigger is ball into and through past CF (4)
Keep possession, treasure ball and make the right decisions!
