Warm Up (10 mins)

Organization:

1. Open area setup as shown

2. 12 players (6 teams of 2) setup as shown

3. 6 balls

4. Players are 10 yards apart

Instructions:

1. Players pass the ball back and fourth between each other

2. When one player stops the ball the other must run into close

3. The defender then returns back to their starting positon 10 yards away from the bal

4. The sequence is then repeated

5. Either player can stop the ball at anytime

Coaching Points:

Angle and speed of approach

1. Close down quickly

2. Slow down as you approach the atacker

3. Bend the knees stay sideways on to the ball

Progressions:1. P – Allow players to perform tackling techniques when they arrive

2. P – Allow the player that stops the ball to try and go around the defending player

3. R – The ball is stopped on every third pas so players know when to close down

Main Theme 1 (20 mins)

Organization:

1. 20 x 10 yard area setup as shown

2. 3 players (1 Attacker,1 Defender, 1 Second Atttacker) setup as shown

3. 1 ball per area

Instructions:

1. The defending player in the middle starts the exercise by passing the ball into the attacking player on one of the two end lines

2. Once the pass has been received the defending player runs in to close down the attacker

3. The attacker must attempt to score by dribbling the ball through the small goal at the opposite end line.

4. A points are scored for a successful dribble or tackle

5. The defending player then repeats the exercise by playing to the second attacker

6. Rotate the defending player after allotted time or attempts

Coaching Points:

1. Closedown quickly

2. Angleof approach to make play predictable

3. Slowdown as you approach the attacker

4. Bendthe knees stay sideways on to the ball

5.  Preparefor next action - delay or tackle

Progressions:

1. P –  Allow defending players to go to goal if they win the balll

2. P – Increase the size of the scoring area to include the entire end line

3. R – Allow defenders to close down as so n as they make the pass

4. R – Reduce the width of the area so there is less attacking space

Main Theme 2 (20 mins)

Organization:

1. 20 x 15 yard area setup as shown

2. 4 players (2 Attackers,2 Defenders) setup as shown

3. 1 ball (Additional around the outside)

Instructions:

1. Defending player starts with the ball

2. Defending player passes into the attacking player

3. The attacking player moves out to receive the ball and attempt to beat the defender and dribble through one of the two scoring gates situated on the defenders end line

4. Defending player becomes active on the attacker's first ouch and attempts to win the ball

5. Players rotate roles after each attempt

6. Awarded points for successful attempts and keep score

Coaching Points:

1. Deny penetration

2. Speed of approach

3. Angle of appraoch, force player on to weak side

4. Correct moments to tackle

5. Faint to tackle to force a mistake

6. Tackling techniques

Progressions:

1. P – If the defender wins the ball they now can score by dribbling through attacker's scoring gates

2. 1 ball with extra behind goals

Instructions:

1. Teams will play two 8 minute halves
