Specific Practice - Organisation
9v9: Coaching the reds (GK-2-3-3), managing the blues (GK-4-2-2)
Pitch Size 70x40m
Tapered Area to replace red full backs.
Start/Restart:
GK/Coach feeding play. 5 + 4 Splitting to receive.
Defender who does not receive the ball can join 6 to help create a midfield box.
As a Starting point - 9 Stays high and central, 7 +11 maintain width and height, 8+10 create box with 6+ Defender / Triangle with wide player.
Block 1 - Playing through - Quickest and most successful way to goal - What if - opposition play man for man?
Managing the opposition - Out of possession - Man for man (+1 at the back for realism) to encourage spaces for split passes to play through.
KP - 8/10/6+Defender make animated box big - Creating Gaps between two hold players.
Can the 9 come off his man into created space to receive between the lines (or into the middle of the box). 9 must receive to play forwards, unless marked. Rapid movement from 6 support behind, 7/11 support beside (width), 8/10 support beyond (midfield runners).
Block 2 - Playing around - What if - we can't play through?
Managing the opposition - out of possession - Can they stop them playing through - Stay narrow and compact leaving the furthest man. 9 Does not get on the ball. This will encourage the reds to play around.
KP - 8/10/6+Defender make animated box narrow, higher up the field - Pinning holding opposition CM and full backs in their narrow and compact shape. This will create passing lanes into our 7/11 . 7/11 come off the man (maintaining width) receiving to play forwards unless marked tight. Rapid movement from 6/Defender support behind and closest 8/10 support beside (creating a triangle). IF full back engage 7/11 - Can 8/10 now exploit space between opposition FB and CB. Furthest 6/defender covers centrally. IF we are successful in attacking that side, opposite 8/10, 9 and 7/11 support beyond (midfield runners) in the box. IF we can not break down opposition on that side can we try play through (an unsettled) central area or can we switch play quickly through deep laying players (opposite attacker hold width), to unsettle opposition shape.

SSG
Block 1 - Game scenario - What if - we aren't sure how the opposition will play? - Observation of decision making - Playing through or around.
Are the players able to recognise when to and how to play through or around - Reacting to opposition decisions? Can you create spaces for others to play?
Block 2 - What if - High press - Play the pass to attract the pressure - Body shape to attract pressure (back to goal). Bounce pass, Third man to exploit space in behind left by high press. Stay high7/11, movement out to in. 8/10 midfield runners. 9 to attract high line by moving between lines just off their defender, exploit space in behind if defender goes tight.
