DEFENDING: 5v3 Possession coaching defenders to four goals
Organization of session
The Group of 5 players must try and keep possession and try to make 8-10 passes
If the 3 Defenders Win the ball try and break out and score on any corner goal
The 5 are allowed to try and counter press and winthe ball back if defenders win the ball
Coaching Points:
Good and clear communication is essentialwork together to prevent passing angles and lanes
Make play predictable
Close down with intensity and as a pack

DEFENDING: Functional Defensive Practice in 3's
Organization of session Middle Player Passes the Ball out to either End. Receiving player must try and work the ball to play to the opposite end
Defender must try and prevent forward pass. Rotate players so that everyone get a turn

Defensive shape 4v.4+GK flying changes
Organization of Practice:
-Two teams of 8 for each color
-4v.4+GK with alternate 3-4 waiting by each goal.
-The team that concedes the goal is replaced by the alternate3-4 from their team.
Keep score to keep it competitive.
-Ball starts with the goalkeeper, who plays a ball out to 4attackers, 4 defenders push up the field as quickly as possible

DEFENDING PRESSING 4V4+ GOALKEEPER
Session Objective: Objective is to teach your team to work together to establish your line of confrontation and immediately counter when in possession of the ball.
Field size is half of the field Coach players to have one objective - regain possession and counter.
Team will make the field compact both horizontal and vertical Pressure, cover and balance
Players must be able to mark man to man and understand the offside rule.
4 v 4 + GK Defending team playing in a 4-4-2

4v4 in Attacking 1/3
Strikers immediate pressure on the ball to make play predictable
Flank Players , Strong Side Mark Full Back to deny penetration or Build up play
Weak Side Flank Player comes into middle as Central Midfielder

DEFENDING IN THE MIDFIELD THIRD 4V4 JERRY SMITH
5 gates
if force attackers thru wide channels (1 point)
If force attackers thru next two channels (2 points)
If force attackers thru central channel (3 points)
Main objective: pressure, cover, balance
Coach plays ball into the attacking team. Defending team attempts to work together and forces the ball wide thru the outside channels
If defending team win the ball, they play thru either of two small cone goals
Progress: Add two attackers and two defenders play thru channel to teammates
