Description

Reds start 5v3 possession in Zone 1 with a central penetrating pass after 5 passes to their team-mates in Zone 2 to start another 5v3 with same objective. Where 3 blue defenders win the ball in Zone 1, they play out of the area to score vs GK and 2 red defenders entering from end-line. Where 3 blue defenders win the ball in Zone 2, they try to score in small goals vs 5 reds with both central counting as double. When ball goes out of play, coach restarts in opposite zone with new ball.

Method: Zone 1 Reds build-up 5v3 with minimum 5 passes and then penetrating pass to red team-mate in Zone 2 to score a goal. 5v3 in zone 2 for the same exercise to transition ball back to Zone 1. Where blues win the ball in Zone 1, they T2A scoring on GK and 2 red defenders entering from end-line. Where blues win the ball in Zone 2, they T2A to score in one of 4 small goals with double points for scoring in central goals. 

Coaching Points:

  • Good possession to build-up transfer
  • Good penetrating pass to team-mate in central area of opposite zone
  • Reds providing depth and width in both zones to receive penetrating pass
  • 3 defending units press, cover and balance
  • Quick T2A after ball is won
  • Quick T2D for zone 2 reds
