Title: Creating Phase – 4-3-3
Theme: Build-Up Play and Attacking Combinations
Primary Objective: Improve players’ ability to progress the ball through the midfield, create goal-scoring opportunities, and maintain defensive compactness when out of possession.
Session Description:
The session focuses on the attacking team’s ability to play out from the back, progress through the midfield using coordinated passing patterns, and effectively exploit wide and central areas to create goal-scoring opportunities. By working in structured zones and gradually removing those restrictions, players will develop a deeper understanding of how to maintain spacing, move off the ball, and recognize the optimal moments to play forward or switch the point of attack. Through a progression to a more open phase of play, the players refine their decision-making, positional awareness, and overall attacking fluency.

Activity 2: 8v7 Progression
Setup:
Zones remain marked, but Zone 3 extends across the width of the field.
Yellow players: 2 CBs in Zone 1, 2 wingers and 1 striker in Zone 3.
Blue team: 3 midfielders in Zone 2.
Red team: 4 midfielders versus 3 blue midfielders in Zone 2.
The goal is to progress the ball into Zone 3 and attack the finishing phase.
Instructions:
Play begins from the yellow CBs in Zone 1, aiming to progress into Zone 3.
Red midfielders press and try to regain possession.
Once the ball enters Zone 3, red midfielders are allowed to recover to defend.
Rotate players every few rounds.
Progression:
Remove the zones and allow free play.
Key Coaching Points (KCPs):
Use diamond and rhombus shapes with the striker, wingers, and midfielders to create passing angles.

Activity 3: Phase of Play – Blue Team Attacking the Goal
Setup:
Keep Zone 1 for the yellow CBs, but remove Zone 2 and Zone 3.
Red team sets up as a back four with 2 CDMs in front.
Blue team attacks toward a full-sized goal.
Instructions:
Play begins from the yellow CBs in Zone 1.
The blue midfielders and yellow attackers (wingers and striker) work together to break down the red team’s defensive structure.
The blue team’s objective is to create and finish attacking opportunities on goal.
If the red team wins possession, they can counterattack or reset the ball to the coach to restart.
Key Coaching Points (KCPs):
Blue team should focus on quick ball movement and creative combinations to unlock the red defense.
Timing of runs from yellow wingers and the striker is crucial to create high-quality chances.
Red defenders maintain compactness, block passing lanes, and communicate to stay organized.
Blue players must stay patient and wait for the right moment to penetrate.
Encourage blue midfielders to link play effectively and provide support behind the ball to sustain attacks.

Creating Phase: Possession Game (25 mins)
Activity 1: Creating Phase from Zone 1 to Zone 3
Setup:
Field divided into 3 vertical zones.
Zone 1: 2 yellow CBs.
Zone 2: 3 blue midfielders, 2 yellow wingers.
Zone 3: 1 yellow forward.
Red team: 4 midfielders, 1 forward, moving freely in Zones 1 and 2.
Instructions:
Coach begins play by passing to a CB in Zone 1.
Blue team’s goal: maintain possession, create passing lanes, and deliver a forward pass to the striker in Zone 3.
The striker must check into space, receive the pass, and lay it off successfully for 1 point.
Play resets after the layoff and starts again from Zone 1.
Defending Transition: If the red team wins possession, they must dribble past the end line to score 1 point.
Teams switch roles after each round.
Key Coaching Points (KCPs):
Be patient in circulation—don’t force the play.
Midfielders rotate positions to pull defenders and create clear passing lanes.
Movement must provide passing angles and options.
Forward checks shoulder, stays in defender’s blind spot, and adjusts position to receive the pass.
Speed of play and timing are critical to exploit space.
