Dribble, Pass, Chase
10 minutes
High-intensity conditioning game
In pairs, cones are set up as illustrated, red & yellow cones around 15m apart with a 2m gate towards one end.
Player A with the ball dribbles up to the white gate while Player B runs to meet A the other side. They complete 3 passes before B drives away back to the red cone. A must loop round the red cone and chase B to the end. To restart players switch start points and go again.
Progression
Chasing player can loop inside the yellow cone or between the white gate depending on success.
Coaches cues
Encourage good positive first touch to help drive to the red cone faster
Shield the ball if the chaser catches up, ensuring you’re aware of where the defender is - check shoulder/arms up

1 vs 1 Passive & 1 Active Defender
15-20 minutes
2 grids of 6 players. Goal at one end, 2 small yellow gates wide at the opposite end.
Player A starts by passing in to player B and giving passive pressure before joining line B.
Player B takes a positive first touch towards goal & away from passive pressure of A.
Once B takes their first touch Player C sprints to close down B and win the ball.
B must use skill/speed to beat C and score. A can only shoot once in the highlighted shooting zone. Once a goal is scored or C wins ball, the play ends.
Rotate A-B / B-C / C-A
Allow each player to have 3-4 turns at each start point.
Progression
Once C wins the ball they must try to dribble through one of the wide yellow gates while A attempts to win it back
Player A becomes an active defender creating 1v2
Coaches Cues
Emphasis on positive first touch and using speed to drive at defender
Confidence in attempting various skills to beat defender

Switch after 5 minutes
Progression
Once a team scores they then attack the opposite way and the defending team must adjust
Coach Cues
Can you recognise a 1v1 situation and have the confidence to beat an opponent
Extra points for winning 1v1 resulting in a goal

Warm up
10-15 minutes
High intensity conditioning warm up
Upon arrival, advise players to grab a ball each and begin dribbling around the area. Instruct players to use cones as "defenders" and show off their individual ball skills. Demonstrate or ask players to demonstrate new skills for the group to practise.
Once all players have arrived allow a few more minutes for skill practise.
In pairs, players face each other on either side of a blue gate with one ball. Players complete 1 or 2 touch passes through the same gate. When coach shouts go the player with the ball dribbles away trying to go through as many gates as possible within a set time i.e. 1 minute. The partner must chase the dribbler providing passive pressure. Once the time is up the pair resume their passing at a gate.
Allow 3-4 turns with passive pressure.
Progression
Chasing player can win the ball and then dribble through as many gates themselves, with their partner again trying to win the ball back.
Variations on passes I.e. control with inside/outside, using both feet to pass back
