Learning Outcomes:
1. Understanding the right moment to break a line with a pass in the center field.
2. Understand from receiving and passing perspectives, how to find and create those gaps and why are they important.

Organization:
- 3 teams with 4 players each
- 1 big area (40x40m), separated into three equidistant zones as shown
- 1 team in each zone
Instructions:
- Team on each end (2 zones, white and red) have a ball each. First team to combine 4 passes and pass (5th pass) to red gets a point. As soon as its done, player on red passes ball to team and start again. First team to get to three points wins and chooses whether to stay or to switch with red (if winning team decides to stay, losing team switches with red/middle team).
- After a few rounds, game changes and each team with possession has to send a defender over to the other zone. Therefore, in example above, blue sends a defender to zone where white team is and vice-versa. If 'defender' disrupts play and gets it out of bounce, he/she comes back to their zone and tag a new defender who goes over to disrupt. Team with possession has to get 4 passes and pass to red for a point. As soon as red gets the pass they pass back and team with possession can get another point.
- First team to five points wins game.
- Keep track of points.
Coaching Points/Questions:
- How can we position our body to complete passes to team in the body as fast as possible? (opening hips, facing target?)
- What can we do with our space when defenders come into our zone? (if defenders come in, we should scan but also spread out to make defender run more).

Organization:
- 3 teams with 4 players each, but now teams at each end are playing together
- 1 big area (40x40m), separated into three equidistant zones as shown
- 1 team in each zone
- Coach feeds ball from the side as soon as the ball is out of play
Instructions:
- Blue team (bottom) tries to get the ball to the white team (top) on the ground. Any time that happens it is a point for white and blue. If white/blue split If the red team, it is two points. If red (middle) intercepts, they have to combine three passes or dribble out of bounce. If they do successfully three times (that would be 3 interceptions), then red team switches with team that gave ball away, and game continues.
- SEE PROGRESSIONS
Coaching Points/Questions:
Players receiving:
(1) Receiving players: can we see a clear channel between 'us' and the ball?
(2) Receiving players: If we see that channel between 'us' and the ball, can we recognize if it's wide, or narrow, based on the 'defender' in the middle? Once , we see that can we make it wider (and possible longer/deeper)? Think of the splits (Are they wide or narrow?).
(3) Receiving players: If defender blocks channel, can we constantly be shifting are position to keep that channel (or gap) open?
Players Passing:
- Passing players: Can we recognize the gaps? (similar to receiving team)
- Passing players: Once we see the gap, can we pass with pace?
Team/General
(1) Team/General: When is the best time to split the middle? (when middle team is disorganized)
(2) Team/General: When is the middle team disorganized? (likely after they were just broken by a pass)
Regressions/Progressions:
(1) Middle team can now send a defender into zone where team has possession.
(2) Receving team can now send a player into the middle zone to receive (this one is intended to transition into the Conditioned Game)

Organization:
- Identical organization as the Main Activity.
Instructions:
- Boths teams on possession are now allowed to free-roam. That is, they're not restricted to their area. Defending team (Red) is restricted to its area. Objective of the game is the same, can we get the ball from bottom zone to top zone for a point. In order to switch, red team now has to only gain possession once and dribble out of bounce. If done successfully, they will switch with team that lost possession.
- Coach feeds ball.
Coaching Points/Questions:
- To bring topic out, coach defending team with organization. Ask them to stay compact and avoid being split. Let teams in possession figure out game. If team struggles, give them a minute to huddle and figure out strategy.

- 4v4 Scrimmage. 4-minute games OR first team to score 2 goals. Winner stays on.
- Coach in the flow, and encourage the breaking of lines. Diamond formation for all teams. Let the game flow.

Breaking the Thirds
Breaking Lines Through the Thirds with Passes and Splits
- What: Breaking by Passing into center lanes from thirds to thirds
- Who: Players on possession from central areas (defensive third: 4, 5; Middle Third: 6, 8, 10)
- When: When on possession and moving forward fast
- Why: In order to break pressure and move ball forward into opponent's side. Finding space between gaps and receiving allows us to potentially turn, and have a little bit of space before the next line of opposing pressure approaches us.
- Where: Can be adjusted for defensive and middle thirds
- What ifs? If passing lane is blocked? Then, we can find alternative. If pressure is witholding? Then, we can dribble forward. See coaching points
