Compete and Transisition (25 mins)

  • Exercise is Initiated by coach putting the ball into the game area
  • Teams compete to secure the ball and win possession
  • Team that secures the ball need to make 3passes within the central area before they can transition forward into the attacking area and score (can be anything between 2-5 passes based on group ability)
  • Team out of possession are looking to disposes the attacking team and earn the right to attack in the opposite direction (they can do this straight after turnover no need to make 3 passes)
  • Play side lines as normal, if a goal is scored or if ball goes off back line hit out from anywhere inside the shooting area and all attacking players must clear out the shooting area
  • 3 passes = 1 point, goal = 1 point (If a goal is scored in 1 phase of play e.g 3passes>goal, turnover>goal = team get double points)
  • Play best of 3 goals then reset back to the middle for coach feed (score will always be 2-1 or 3-0)
  • Teams always shoot in the same direction.

Coachingfocus

  • Heavy focus on the Initial deny and disrupt principles once the ball is secured.
  • Focus on how the team transition from out of possession to in possession once turnover is achieved
  • Introduction of scramble defence and how they execute the defensive principles whilst defending against fluid shapes.

Variations/Progressions

  • Fluctuate numbers creating overloads
  • Increase/decrease number of passes needed before they can score
  • Add/remove player on goal scored
