Simple session focusing on player positioning and decision making when playing out from the back.

Half Pitch Game (15 mins)
Half Pitch Game.
Play always begins with the GK.
The red team have a 5v3 overload. (size of overload dependant upon player numbers.)
The red team must try and play/score into one of the mini goals.
If the blue team win the ball, can they attack the big goal and beat the GK.
The opposite game is taking place on the other half of the pitch.
When the ball goes out for a goal kick, the blues retreat to the halfway line, just as they would in a match.
Coaching Points.
Can the defenders find one of their midfield team mates?
Can the midfielders help support the defender in possession?
Where should the GK play the ball in relation to the player?
How should the player receive the ball?

Half Pitch Game Regression (15 mins)
Half Pitch Game Regression.
If the players are not coping with the concept of the game, ask each of the red team to stand where they think they might need to be when the GK has the ball for a goal kick. Then get them to drop a disc cone on the floor. This wil be their reference marker. Let them play to see if their marker is in a good position.
Coaching Points.
How would the reds react when the GK has the ball in his hands; the blues don't retreat in this instance.

End Game (15 mins)
End Game.
Have the teams leave their markers on the pitch and play a match. Depending on numbers, play one match or two mini matches.

Can the players take what they have just learnt into a game situation?
How well are they playing out from thr back?

Mark out a couple of mini pitches with mini goals.
As players arrive filter them into teams and get them playing. No GKs
Let them know the focus of the session.
When the ball goes out of play over the deadball line, play begins with an acting GK who plays out to one of his team mates.
