A Position specific session focusing on a CDM switching play with 2 different passes (two on floor to feet and one longer 'over') and supporting from behind.
A full back defending a winger 1v1 (emphasis on correct body shape, when to get tight and when to allow space before approach) and also distribution from left back via a forward pass ( on the floor, around and over) and potentially a ball into the CDM.
Number 10 - timing of movement to create space to receive pass from CDM. Checking of shoulder to decide what pass/through ball he wants to play. Arriving in the box to shoot once pass played. Being aware and supporting the winger with correct positional play.

Position Specific Practice
Description: Position Specific Practice FB 1v1 | DCM Switching Play | No.10 Playing Between Lines
Learning Outcomes:
1. FB to defend a 1v1 in wide areas and provide passing quality forward or into midfield.
2. DCM Playing forward passes and big switches of play.
3. NO.10 receiving between lines and breaking the box.
Organisation: x2 8 minutes blocks, 2.5' rest between each block
Dimensions: ideally a half pitch practice, However may have to be 1/3rd.
3 players coached, 1 managed (winger) and a GK TOTAL = 5.
3 mannequins as opposition for '10' representing holder and 2 CBs.
1 x Mannequin for FB to play over or around.
1. Coach plays to CDM to play a pass into winger’s feet to go 1v1 with full back. Winger looking to beat FB. How does FB defend - can he show him outside? Body shape, don't cross feet when defending, low body position.
2. Assistant Coach plays into FB who plays a channel pass into the mini goal after 1v1 with winger. Pass selection
(over and on floor).
3. Coach plays to CDM who switches play into big goals - pass choice should be a ‘laces' strike.
4. Coach plays into CDM, who plays into 10 to thread a pass into the mini goals. 10 then attacks the box to score in the main goal past the GK (receives pass from GK coach behind goal).
10 to check shoulder during movement off Mannequin to pick a goal for through ball pass.
Progressions:
Winger playing inside combination with the 10.
Coach plays in CDM, who plays the winger. Does the FB track the wingers run, or Switch off as inside pass is played?
Can CDM now be in a position to receive off full back (as game scenario, giving FB another passing option)
FB can he now find the pass into the central area - correct angles of approach from CDM and direction of pass from FB, plus support after pass and communication (turn etc).
1. Coach plays to CDM to play a pass into winger’s feet to go 1v1 with full back, winger looking to beat FB.
2. Once reset - Winger receives a pass (from coach 2) winger drives inside and plays combination with the 10 (10 plays pass between lines) and winger ends with shot at goal or cross to 10 arriving in box.
3. Coach plays into FB who plays a channel pass into the mini goal after playing 1v1 (potentially mannequin in place as opposition to go over, as well as down the side).
4. Coach plays to CDM who switches play into big goals.
5. Coach plays into CDM who plays into 10 to thread a pass into the mini goals. 10 then attacks the box to score in the main goal past the GK.
Key Points:
Quality of the pass - Weight of pass / Understanding where to play pass (furthest foot etc).
Movement to receive and timings of the movement (Away from the ball / angle and distances).
Ability to defend 1v1 (Body position, side on, closing distances) Shoulders facing forward.
Taking the pass on the back foot and on the move (specifically the CDM and 10 to hopefully only need one touch to set themselves to pass).
10 to scan shoulders to ensure awareness.
