1v1 (15 mins)

THE SESSION: 1v1 Disguise 

  • The defender passes into the attacker to start the practice.
  • The attacker tries to create space to shoot at goal while the defender must close him down.
  • The attacker can score in either goal and should be encouraged to show disguise and skill to lose the defender and score.
  • If the defender manages to steal the ball, they can also score.
  • The players switch roles after 1-2 minute games.

Lumber Jacks (10 mins)

THE SESSION: Lumber Jacks (With or Without the Ball)

Players dribble out into the forrest and chop down as many trees as possible as fast as possible by shooting the ball at the cones. If the ball knocks over the come its 1 point. Once all trees are down players must stand them up using hands or feet (balance).

PROGRESSIONS:

Knock over the cones other ways: 

  • Hands, 
  • Feet, 
  • Throwing a Ball, 
  • Rolling a ball. 
  • Incorporate movements like running, jumping, hopping, skipping.

Ice-cream Game (10 mins)

THE SESSION: All Players dribble to the ball and collect a cone, place the ball inside the cone and return to the coach. They then tell the coach what is their favorite flavor. Vanilla, Chocolate etc. Fun game to collect the cones.  

PROGRESSIONS: Cookies, Cub Cakes, Candies.

ABC's (10 mins)

THE SESSION: 

This game starts without the ball and then progresses to with the ball, 

- Two 5 yard zones on each end (the dog pound is the central area), 

- 2 players start in the pound (no ball and must stay in the pound as dog catchers).

- All the bulldogs start in one end zone. 

- On the dog catchers call of BULLDOGS!, all bulldogs must sneak through the dog pound without being
caught by the dog catchers. 

- If the catcher steals your ball and kicks it out of the pound, you are a dog catcher.

PROGRESSION: 

  • Give the bulldogs a ball each catchers have to pinch the ball. 

KEY POINTS: 
  • Starting Without the Ball: Highlight the importance of movement and agility while without possession of the ball. Encourage players to be attentive and ready to react to the "BULLDOGS!" call.

  • Spatial Awareness: Teach players to navigate through the playing area without being caught, emphasizing sneaking and evading tactics to avoid the catchers.

  • Ball Possession Skills: When players progress to having the ball, focus on basic ball control techniques such as dribbling and keeping the ball close to avoid losing possession to the dog catchers.

  • Fair Play and Sportsmanship: Emphasize the importance of fair play and respect. Remind players to play with a positive attitude, whether they are a catcher or trying to avoid being caught.

  • Adaptability and Resilience: Encourage a positive attitude toward being caught. Emphasize that being a catcher is part of the game, and they can have fun playing either role.

  • Feedback and Encouragement: Offer positive reinforcement and constructive feedback. Praise efforts, good attempts at evasion, or successful catches to motivate and boost confidence.

  • Fun and Enjoyment: Above all, ensure the session remains enjoyable. Keep the atmosphere lively, fostering a love for the game while learning and having fun.

Red Light - Green Light (10 mins)

Objective: to dribble and change directions toward the goal (coach)

Organization: In a 15Wx20L grid, a small cone goal in each corner & all players with a soccer ball dribbling within the space. The coach(es) walk around the space. When the coach says “red light”, the players must stop their ball. If the coach says “green light”, the players must dribble again. If a player cannot stop their ball, they must dribble through any goal then start playing again. Coach controls the frequency of the lights to allow the players time to respond. Variations: Yellow Light-dribble slow, Blue Light-5 toe taps on the ball. Purple Light-hop on 1 foot around the ball. Rules: On Green Light, the players are trying to dribble toward the coach. Once the coach is tagged, start a new game.

Key Words: Laces, Outside (of the foot), Inside (of the foot), Bottom (of the foot)

Guided Questions: Are the players able to stop the ball? Are all players able to use different surfaces of their feet?

Answers: Get close to the ball and softly touch the top of the ball with the bottom of the foot.

Use terms like big toe and pinky toe instead of inside and outside of the foot.
