Description

What:

Receiving & Passing 1st touch - To be able to beat pressure and successfully play from middle third into attacking third.

Who:

#7, #8, #6, #10 #11, and #9

Where:

Middle third

When:

When the team is on possession of the ball in the middle third.

Why:

To be able to beat the opponent's high pressure, and using quality first touches to directly control better the direction of play.

Receiving -1st touch Intro (10 mins)

1st Touch Partners - Intro (10mins)

Organization:

  • 30x40 Grid

Instructions:

  • 2 players/per soccer ball
  • Passing & Receiving with partner (free roam)
  • 1st touch working on ball retention 

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • How can we be align with the ball in order to receive the pass?
  • How can we anticipate the movement of the ball?
  • Select the appropriate surface (ex: inside foot, outside foot, chest, etc..) for the 1st touch.
  •  Can we withdraw surface upon impact with ball?
  • Direction of 1st touch to enable next action

Regressions/Progressions:

  • If there uneven number of players make group of 3
  • Apply 2 or 3 maximum # of touches 
  • Alternate using different surfaces (Ex: weak foot, knees, and chest)

Receiving and Passing 1st touch - Main Activity (20 mins)

1st Touch Gate Keepers: Main Activity ( 20mins)

Organization:

  • 30x40 Grid
  • 2 yard gates set up on borders of the grid near the 4 corners and 2 in the middle (total of 6)
  • 5x5 box set in the middle of grid 
  • 6 players standing inside each gate 
  • Remaining players inside grid with a ball 

Instructions:

  • Players inside grid with a ball dribble and find a gate player to pass to
  • Gate player receives pass and gives a pass right back
  • Every time a player on the inside completes a pass with a gate player, they must then dribble thorough the yellow square and move before finding a new gate player

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • How can we be align with the ball in order to receive the pass?
  • How can we anticipate the movement of the ball?
  • Select the appropriate surface (ex: inside foot, outside foot, chest, etc..) for the 1st touch.
    • Can we withdraw surface upon impact with ball?
    • Direction of 1st touch to enable next action

Regressions/Progressions:

  • If there uneven number of players make group of 3
  • Rotate Gate players every 90 secs 
  • Challenge players to set personal records on  how many gates can they pass and receive a ball from
  • Alternate using different surfaces (Ex: weak foot, knees, and chest)

1st touch Conditioned Game (20 mins)

1st Touch Lottery numbers - Conditioned Game (20mins)

Organization:

  • 30x40 Grid
  • 2 teams (Attackers vs. Defenders)
  • Soccer balls start on the side with defenders
  • 2 pug goals set on the end lines 

Instructions:

  • Give each player on both team a number 1-6, make sure they remember which number they are 
  • Every round Shout out 2 or 3 numbers ex: (2,4,6) Only those players enter that round of play
  • Balls start on one side with Defenders
  • Defender passes it to the attackers
  • Attackers have option to try and score on any goal
  • If Defenders wins the ball, they can score on any goal as well
  • Switch sides after a team scores 5 goals

    • How can we be align with the ball in order to receive the pass?
    • How can we anticipate the movement of the ball?
    • Select the appropriate surface (ex: inside foot, outside foot, chest, etc..) for the 1st touch.
    • Can we withdraw surface upon impact with ball?

    • How does the quality of a first touch help us in a game?

Regressions/Progressions:

  • Add more players to make it more of a challenge / decrease the number of players per round 
  • Keep players active each round
  • increase the amount of goals needed to win

Receiving - 1st Touch - The Match: (30mins)

Organization:

  • 2 teams( 6v6, or 7v5 ) GK's optional 
  • soccer balls
  • pug goals or futsal goals

Instructions:

  • Fifa rules 15 min halves 

Coaching Points/Questions:

      • How can we be align with the ball in order to receive the pass?
      • How can we anticipate the movement of the ball?
      • Select the appropriate surface (ex: inside foot, outside foot, chest, etc..) for the 1st touch.
      • Can we withdraw surface upon impact with ball?
      • Direction of 1st touch to enable next action
      • How does the quality of a first touch help us in a game?


Regressions/Progressions:

  • Add GK's if needed or no Gk's 
  • Score points for successful passes, goals, and for quality 1st touches
