Description

  Defending 1 v 1 

1) Arrival Activity -small sided games

2) Warm up 

3) 1 v 1 defending

4) Game 

 Coaching Points:  DEFENDING:  look to close down the player

Speed of Approach, Quickly move to the attacker with speed (touch tight)

 Angle of Approach (Side on, low), eyes on the ball, balance and body position (low, side on)

 Delay ( prevent forward play), Deny, Dictate where you want the player to go ( away from goal)  Show patience when to win the ball

Tactical: Get goal side of the closest player ,

 As players arrive, have then join one of two games, it may be 1 v1, 2v1 2 v 2 etc. 

 

Objective: Attacking & Defending Skills , Fun , communication 

 

Organization: set up two Fields 20 x 20m  (adjust to players needs)

2 Bow nets 4 Pug nets

Cones, Soccer balls, bibs

3min ball contact warm-up

 Equipment Used: Balls, Cones

Jogging 30 sec: Jog in any direction.

Lateral Movement 30 sec: move in any direction to any object sideto side without clicking your heels

Move backward 30 sec:  keep low, check your shoulders to see whereyou are going, and change direction.

One Foot Hops 30 sec: look to jump over as many objects as you can,switching feet (left/right)

Two Foot jumps 30 sec: big jumps over as many objects as you can

Clear the playing area: Dribble - 2min Use one ball dribble fora min lots of touches on the ball left and right foot, inside and out, do aturn using different parts of the feet

warm up (10 mins)

Warm up:  defending 1 v 1 10min  

Organization: 10 x 12m grid -  2 players per group cones, balls

 

Procedure:  One Player starts  by playing the ball to their opposite partner The player that receives the ball now looks to dribble through their opponents Gate. The Defender looks close down the attacker and win the ball and then get through the other gate.

After the game is over the player switch roles.

 

Each Time a player get through a gate they get a goal/point. How many points can they get?

 

Progression:  give players time limits ( as soon as the attacking player touch the ball they have 10 sec to score.

Defending 1 v 1 (15 mins)

Defending 1 v 1  10/12 mins 

 

Organization: 15 x 20m  pug net, cones, pinnies, balls 

 

Procedure: Server (black) serves into the attacker (red) as the ball is in motion the defender (blue) looks to close down and win the ball from the attacker. The attacker looks to score in the pug net. if the defender wins the ball can they get through the orange gate.

Give them a time limit 15/20 sec , set up a scoring zone so players have to score inside (worth more points) 

 

Coaching points:  look to close down quickly, speed/angle of approach , eyes on the ball, (delay, deny, dictate )  balance and body , threaten the ball 

 

Progression: defend in pairs U10 - U12

Game: 20min  3 v3 , 4 v 4 5 v 5 or 7 v 7

 

Set game up based on players numbers

 

Organization: cones, pinnies bow nets ,balls 

 

Laws of the game ( retreat line, kicks in etc..)

 

Observation : Defending , getting goal side, player closest to the ball looking to close  down the player with the ball as quickly as possible, being patient when defending and when is the right time to look to win the ball .
