Practice is set for 12 players, Cone out an area of 30 yards wide with cones at 5 yard gaps by 20 yards in length creating 6 lanes (Area size and duration can be adjusted according to amount and age of players), Bib up players on arrival in preparation for small sided game at the end of drill, Pair off the players with 1 ball between 2 and set the players 5 yards apart opposite each other within their lane, spare balls located around the area.
Adaptations to the practice (Progressions/Regressions/Challenges)
1. With players up on their toes ready to play Players A start the drill with a good firm pass into players B who will get in position take a good first touch to control and return pass into players A who will get in position to control take a good first touch and repeat the process this will continue for a few minutes.
2. Players A now become servers, they will pick up the ball and serve into players B mid body for players B to practice thigh control, they will relax adjust body shape to control on thigh and get the ball back on the floor under control and return the ball with a pass back into players A, players A will continue to serve until players B have had 10 turns (5 on right leg and 5 on left leg to encourage practice on both legs and feet), now switch to players B becoming servers for players A to complete thigh control 10 times.
3. Players A become servers again, this time players A will serve into players B upper body for players B to practice chest control, they will relax adjust body shape to control on chest and get the ball back on the floor under control and return the ball with a pass back into players A, players A will serve 10 times then switch for players B to serve 10 times to complete the process.
