Warm up - Pass - Sht, Sht, Long (15 mins)

Organization /Set up:

  • Set up a 30 x 30 area (approx)
  • Players work in groups of 3’s
  • Short and Long Passing

Execution:
  • Player 1 pases to P2 and Back to P1.  - Short Passes
  • P1 Long Pass to 3 and becomes short Player
  • P2 Become switches places with P1 and moves to P3 for short Pass
  • Play continues

Progression- 

  • 1 or 2 touch
  • Use only weaker foot
  • How many passes can each team make in a row 

Coaching Points/Key Factors:
  • Focus on moving and creating space and passing lanes
  • Proper passing technique (plant foot position, follow through, strong ankles
  • Pass & look for space and find angle for recieving pass
  • Communications - where are your team mates. Let them know where you are
  • Conituous for 2 min and stop for 30 second dynamic stretching
  • Are they checking shoulder to see where teammate is and where is the space to open
  • Body Postion, open for passing
  • Coaching points during break

Passing & Recieving (20 mins)

Organization

  • Create a box approximately 3 yards by 3 yards (Poles or Cones)
  • Set two codes approximately 5-7 yards on either side of the box.
  • One player starts in the box and the other two players start at the two cones on either side of the box.

Instructions

  • 1. A player (RED) on the side of the box passes to the working player (BLUE) as they make a check run to the ball.
  • 2. The working player receives the pass, turns around the training stick back into the middle of the box.
  • 3. The working player then passes the ball between the training sticks to the player on the opposite side of the box.
  • 4. The working player makes a check run outside the box towards the player they made the pass.
  • 5. The side player returns the ball to the working player in the middle.
  • 6..The working player then receives the ball, turns around a different training stick and returns back into the box.
  • They then pass to the other player and the pattern repeats.
Switch every 1 minuteallowing

Variations

  • To make the drill more difficult, tighten the grid and limit the number of touches to receive and turn
  • To make the drill a bit easier, make the area larger

Coaching Points

  • Proper passing positioning
  • moving toward the ball to receive
  • Good fluid movement after the first touch - Body position on receiving the ball to direction if movement

Passing Combo Through Ball (20 mins)

Equiptment and Set up

  • 8-9 players
  • 4 pols
  • 2 players at pole for Position 2
  • Rotation
  • 3 moves to 1
  • 1 Moves to 2
  • 2 Moves to 
Set up:
  • Player 2 begins by moving from outside to inside the tow poles (creating space)
  • Player 1 passes the ball to Player 2 int that space
  • Player 2 passes to Player 3 
  • Player 3 plays a through ball between the poles to Player 1
  • Player 1 Shoots on Goal.
Progressions:
  • 1. Player 3 dribbles into space with player 1 movting with.  Player 3 passes a through ball to player 1, communicatng with Player 1 on when to release.
  • 2. Player 2 gives a "drop pass" to Player 3, player 3 moves into space to take pass and passes a through ball to Player 1.
  • 3. Player 2 Presses Player 3 after pass and player 3 passes through ball through poles, but with Pressure
Coacing points:
  • Quick passing movements
  • Moving into space for passing
  • Communication and Timing
  • Player 1 should be timing pass so not to be in offside position to recive ball, but move quickly enought to meet ball and take shot.
  • Change sides at mid point of activity time.
