Passing & receiving 15 mins

topic: general technical - initial activity (15 minutes)

midfield phase 

5 steps for coaches to intervene to correct during sessions

freeze, recreate, demonstrate, rehearse, go live

positive reinforcement 

warm-up - dynamic

- inside-outside steps, high-knees, opening closing hips, etc. 

- encouragement of warm-up - injury prevention 

organization:

- at least 5 players per area - 1 ball

- 20'x10' areas - 6 cones 

- start players on both ends - 1 in the middle 

- players pass to the middle player - go to cone on opposite side

- player in the middle receives and passes to opposite end

- after middle player passes they go to the opposite side they passed to

- repeat cycle

key factors and progressions:

- scan before they receive 

- weight of pass

- receive on back foot

- decision making

- ready position 

- proper technique - inside of foot, follow through, contact with heart of ball, plant foot beside, knee slightly bent

- pass and move - create support = angle + distance

- communication

midfield phase

organization:

- mini goals 8' apart - 2 per area 

- 20'x10' - 3 cones to mark starting points

- one player starts between the mini goals no ball - one in the middle no ball

- player on opposite side starts with ball

- players passes to center player - player in-between mini goals makes a run around 1 goal to challenge

- player accepts pass and attempts to pass into a mini goal

- rotation - player in-between goals goes to start, middle player defends - start moves to middle

- receive on back foot - first touch
