Focus + Session design

• Conditioned SSG
• 9v9(+2)
• Emphasis of team training session design is attacking from wide areas, building to switching of play
• Practice area set up as seen in image, marked off with the width of the 18 yard
• 5min blocks - 1 min rest

Progressions/Regressions

• Game 1 - FB's locked into wide channel (unopposed). Only have 2 touches. 3 goals if goal scored through use of wide player. 
• Game 2 - Opposition players can go into wide channel to defend 1v1. If so wide player can take unlimited touches to beat player, need our wide players to be able to attack players 1v1 and be able to beat them. 
• Game 3 - Can create a 2v1 in wide channel with supporting player. Opportunity for WB to combine to beat player or drive into pitch. 
• Game 4 - If you can work the ball through one neutral player to the far-side by playing through the middle that scores an additional point. This encourages central players to be open to support and in a position to switch the play. 
• Game 5 - Open game with added central gates, if you can pass or dribble through a central gate that's worth added points, linked into game model of being compact out of possession and protecting central areas. 

Coaching detail

• Main aim of session design is focusing on wide players, position specific outcome within SSG. 
• Game 1 - Getting head up and making quick decisions prior to receiving the ball, attacking movements of central players to free themselves up to attack the ball (Double movements) Massively important to have central passing options.
• Game 2 - Attacking moves to beat a player. Also to recognise central support players for in-out pass 1-2 pass combo's to beat a man
• Game 3 - To recognise moments when creating a 2v1 in wide channels to lend the ball to create 2v1 and support ahead of the ball or to drive centrally inside. 
• Game 4 - Prior to the switch, be aware of central open players. Important that they are there to support. On far-side, don't be too high too early, want to arrive into the space. Don't want to draw the opposition into the space we are looking to attack. 
• Game 5 - looking for outcomes and coaching detail from previous practices to come out and recognition of session outcome.
