Introduction (10 mins)

Organization:

  • 12yds
  • Line 4 yards after cone
  • 1:00/:30= 1 rep
  • 3reps= 1 sets
  • 3 sets total

Instructions:

  • Partners will pass the ball with pace toward the opposite cone.
  • Players will anticipate the pass and try to get to and receive the ball before it gets over the red line
  • 1 point every time they can receive the ball over the red line - can not just play it back to partner first touch
  • 2nd Round: 1 passing team, 1 receiving team, and 1 defending team
  • Receiving team - 1point to receive and dribble to the opposite cone
  • Defending team - 1 point preventing or intercepting the pass-
  • Defending team - 2 points to maintain possession and playback to the passing team
  • Seconds play - rotate 3 teams 
  • Add scores together from all three positions to determine the winner

1v2 (10 mins)

Organization:

  • 25x15 area
  • 10 players
  • 2:00 / :30= 1 set
  • 2 sets total

Instructions:

  • Attacking teams starts with a pass to the Attacking player from the endline.
  • Another attacker is positioned as a Target player on the other end of the playing area.
  • Attacking player receives the ball in front of the goal and looks to dribble past the halfway line.( 1pt) and play into the target player.
  • Attacking player must cross the halfway line in order to pass to the target.
  • once the target has been played another defender can join making it 2v2
    • halfway line becomes buildout/offside line, once the ball is played into the target.
    • player will be offside, unless defenders are in the defensive half.
  • If attacking player receives from the target and score in the goal= 1pt
  • Defender wins the ball look to score into goal= 5pt
  • Once a goal has been scored or the ball is out of bounds; passing player becomes next Attacker, previous players return to their lines and next players begin.

Coaching Points/Questions:

    - Aggressive 

    - Last step in, first step back,

    - Body position - Side on, stay low,

    - Eyes on ball and player

    - Be patient!

    - Front foot poke tackle when the time is right.

    - next action (defending forward)

Regressions:

  • Play starts off the pass and stays a 1v2. 
    • Attacking player can play into player waiting to go whenever, but they may not join in. 
    • if defenders win possession they score on either goal.

2v2 waves (30 mins)

Organization:

  • players get into teams of 2
  • one pair is a GK 3 seconds of safety behind line.
  • 3:00 rounds/ :45 rest/ 6 sets total
  • goal=1 pt
  • assist= 1 pt
  • Coach after sets 2-4-5 2:00 for coaching.

Instructions:

  • Attacking team side (red) always starts with the ball 
  • players play to goal
  • once the attack is over ball is out or goal teams switch lines, waiting players go.

Technical Points:

- leave fast arrive slow

- last step in, first step back, make contact.

- short and choppy steps to get low on approach.

Tactical coaching points/ Questions:

- Role of first defender (Deny/Delay)

- what can you take away as you get close?

 - how can you make your teammates job easier? (dictate)

- Keeping play compact as a group

 - What happens once the ball gets by you? fast transition between roles as ball travels

- Willingness and desire to attack after wining the ball (defend forward)

- Effective communication

 - how can you let your teammate know you are pressing?

2v2-3v2 (30 mins)

Organization:

  • players get into teams of 2/3
  • 3:00 rounds/ 1:00 Rest= 1 set
  • goal=1 pt
  • win ball in att 1/2 and score= 3pt
  • 6 sets total

Instructions:

  • Attacking team side (red) always starts with the ball
  • players play to goal
  • if a team shoots, 1 waiting player joins the attack 3v2
  • once the attack is over or ball in out on sides, 2 new players take the field.

CG (20 mins)

Organization:

  • 3v3 + GK's or 4v4 with no GK's and use small pugs
  • Set up 3v2 in half field plus 1v1+GK in attacking 3rd
  • Play 4v3 or add another field if higher numbers
  • 3:00/ 1:00 rest= 1 set
  • 4 sets total.

Instructions:

  • Reds try to connect 1 pass before looking to pass the ball to their attacker.
  • Red attacker look to drop and receive the pass in the middle 3rd (Yellow zone)
  • Yellow defender follows and apply pressure to win the ball and prevent him the attacker to turn.
  • Once the ball has crossed the half line, only one Red player can join in to create 2v1 to score on goal.
  • If 2 yellow defenders win the ball, they look to immediately score on goal.
  • If Yellow defender wins the ball vs Red attacker, then open play follows until the goal is scored or ball goes out.
  • Extra goal is rewarded each time the defender wins the duel vs attacker.
  • Play 2 min and rotate the teams
  • Rotate players every time the goals is scored or the ball goes out

Coaching Points:

  • Tight pressure - arm on player
  • Low body stance
  • Force attacker one side (predictable) Less dominant foot?
  • Can we intercept - front foot - visual cues

Progressions & Regressions:

  • R1: No attacking player can join - keep it 1v1
  • P1: Defender starting position from the end line
  • P2: More players can join after the pass is made to Red forwards - all can join
