Players Involved: All players, box is 10X10 or 15X15, can make two boxes if have 12 or more players. More Movement, less standing. Two balls at the same time, starting from opposite corners.
Timing: 3 or 4 minutes each way, depending on level.
Rules: This is to work on teaching players to receive the ball with the furthest foot and hips faced in the direction of travel.
Work two balls to keep movement.
Players pass and then follow their pass.
Play is outside the cones.
Player Tasks/Challenges: What & Why
The object is to get the players comfortable, without thinking about it, to take their first touch with teh inside of the furthest foot.
Firm ankle to direct their first touch where they want the ball to go.
Long pass then sprint to get into position to receive next pass.
Body movement/placement to receive the ball on furthest foot while still facing the direction of next pass.
This should be a two touch exercise.
Progression 1 as shown (counter clockwise) will have first touch with right foot.
Progression 2 will go clockwise and will have first touch as left foot.
Coach's clues: When & How
Watching for players taking the ball wit the closest foot (you may see this when the ball continues on its path from the pass, ie. no resistance to stop the ball.)
And we are watching for using the INSIDE of the foot, not the outside of the furthest foot.
