Description

We are starting the second microcycle of season and this session will teach the players skill moves to change turn and take the ball away from pressure, making sure they not only change direction but they change speed too, we want to create the habit to check there shoulder as the received the ball  and take the ball forward if they can

Turning,

Week 3 -Week 4

Definition of the content  Ability to change direction into a new space while keeping control of the ball.

Simple Concepts

  • Make as few touches with the ball as possible, while keeping them frequent and fast.
  • Use the arms to maintain balance while protecting ourselves from the defender's action.
  • Use the inside surface of the foot to perform inward turns and the outside surface of the foot to perform outward turns.
  • Combine the use of the inside and outside of the foot in a quick and controlled manner.

Advanced Concepts

  • Turn towards the free space
  • Make the initial movement to the opposite side of where we want to turn and progress to.
  • Raise the head in the final phase of the turn to perceive the game situation.
  • As the coach, It is your job to choose from the multiple activities and deliver catering for your groups based on ability levels. Do not try to deliver all activities at once.

EG

Warm Up- Foundational Characters

Main theme-Implement technique (motor skill/move) with stages of pressure

Conditioned game- what game to pick based on the end product & learning outcomes my group can achieve

End game- Identify a moment to teach the restart & bring out the principle of play

In every session

Coaching In the Game (Make two stoppages during the end game to reinforce the learning outcomes below) THIS IS VITAL FOR THE PROGRAM TO PLAYER BE TEACH ON A GAME SCENARIO

Restart Week 3

  • Week 3: Kick off: Make sure players understand the realistic moments when they have to restart on a kick off, Goal Kick, Throw in

     Principle of play Week 3

  •  Penetration:  Is ability for your team to exploit spaces between and behind them both with and without the ball. For teams in possession to penetrate, it may be a player passing between a two defenders to break lines or playing into the space behind as well. Players should be encouraged to occupy spaces between the defenders to allow them to receive and take out the opponents from the game. Individuals can also penetrate by beating players or traveling with the ball too.

MVP points System

The player MVP system is a staple of the program and one we use to set competition from the start of the session to the finish between each individual

The way the system works every player has 5 MVP points to start, Players can win more points by applying themselves to each activity with full commitment trying their hardest to progress, and being awarded points by the coach

Players can also win points during each activity by scoring the most points for that activity and for that they will pick up 2 MVP points from the coach.

We also use the point system to reinforce good standards like staying in bounds, not bumping into other players, and good behavior. the player can lose their points when these standards are not met. Try to use it as a motivator, not a punishment.

Once the players get used to this system they will become more responsible for their own development

Organization

  • 2 team
  • on a 20 by 20 grid
  • on small square inside the grid
  • 4 goals on each corner of the grid

Instructions:

  • One team outside of the grid and the other team inside of the square with a ball each
  • the drill start with the player with the ball dribble out of the square and look to pass the ball to one of the out side player
  • Out side player when they received the ball must pass the ball back to the player that pass the ball to you
  • when inside  players received the pass back must turn and dribble inside of the square before  look for an other out side player to pass the ball
  • after a serie of repetition teams change place

Coaching Points  half turn receive the bal on half turn body position

positive touch to the direction you want to go

open you hip to receive the ball

Pull back turn

  • Step 1 – place your standing foot next to the ball
  • Step 2 – place your other foot on top of the ball (do not step over the ball and use the heel!)
  • Step 3 – Pull the ball backwards (maintaining control of the ball)
  • Tip – make sure you turn your body the right way. E.g. if your standing foot is your left foot, your right foot is dragging the ball back, then you want to turn with the ball in a clockwise rotation until your facing the opposite direction.
Out side turn
  • Step 1 – place your standing foot besides the ball (leaving a bit more distance this time between the foot and ball than you did with the drag-back turn.)
  • Step 2 – your non-standing foot will pass between the gap of the foot and ball. Young players can stand this foot down just past the ball; older players will be expected to incorporate steps 2 and 3 together.
  • Step 3 – twist your standing foot so the outside of the foot is parallel with the ball (right foot would be 2 o’clock, left foot would be facing 10 o’clock.)
  • Step 4 - using the outside of the foot, hook the ball in the opposite direction than your currently facing whilst keeping control
  • Step 5 – turn your body in the same direction as the ball and face the opposite way.
  • Tip – it helps to have a low centre of gravity with knees bent and arms out whilst doing this soccer moves turn.
Inside turn
  • Step 1 – place your standing foot directly behind the ball (lean forward and stay low)
  • Step 2 – your non-standing foot needs to come round and make contact with the back of the ball
  • Step 3 – using the inside of your foot, hook the ball behind you
  • Step 4 – turn (or pivot) in the same direction as the ball so you’re facing opposite direction.
  • TIP – this soccer moves turn is much easier to do at speed and if your ‘on-your-toes’ i.e. not flat footed.

Progressions

  • after player go inside the square 2 time the 3 time must shoot to one of the goals fist on to score win a 1
