Physical Literacy (10 mins)

Objective

Develop acceleration, agility, and reaction speed while encouraging players to quickly close space and chase an opponent.

Organisation

Create multiple 10x15 yard channels.

Players work in pairs.

One player starts with a ball (attacker).

The second player starts 2–3 yards behind without a ball (defender).

A mini goal is placed at the end of each channel.

Multiple channels run simultaneously.

Condition

On the coach’s signal, the attacker dribbles toward the goal attempting to score.

The defender must react quickly and chase to win the ball or block the shot.

If the defender wins the ball they dribble out of the channel.

Players switch roles after each attempt.

Red must cross white end line before they can score

Key Coaching Points

Close space quickly when defending
Win the ball and react immediately

Progressions

Reduce the starting distance between attacker and defender
Add a second attacker after the initial dribble

Regressions

Increase starting distance for the defender
Remove the goal and focus on chasing and stopping the attacker

Timing

3 x 3 minutes

Continuous repetitions with quick rotations.

Link to Game Model

Reinforces the club principle of reacting quickly to defensive moments and closing space to regain possession, encouraging players to chase opponents and compete to win the ball.
