Dribbling/passing coerver warmup

Setup: (setup for 12; adjust to group) X-pattern of cones as shown, appr. 10x10; different colors at each level. Line of 3 to start at each white cone. For pattern B, add the green cones slightly wider than the original grid.

Game: Purpose is to provide multiple touches on ball and footwork/agility coordination, while increasing touch. First player on left dribbles to red cone and performs a turn move towards the blue cone. At the blue cone, he performs attacking move (typically start with roll-tap). Then, he sprints to white cone and back of line. Players alternate movement. Once the player on the left, hits the red cone, player on right begins movement, and so on.

- Continue changing to various turns and/or attacking moves.

Progression to Pattern B: After several successful dribble runs, add in passing movement. Now when player moves to white cone, they pass to the outside of the green cone to a waiting player. The player at green cone lays the ball back to the approaching player and the perform a quick 1-touch wall pass around the green cone. The receiving player then takes off to follow original movement.

Scoring (optional): Race both lines against each other to see who can get through line 3 times first.

Coaching:

- Correct all technical parts of dribbling and passing. Right position and part of foot. Right body angles.

Technical passing rondos

Setup: Four parallel 15x10yd boxes. 6 blue/6 red pinnnies. Adjust size to skill and group

Game: Begin with two separate games. Blues begin with ball and play 3v1. If Red steals it, they attempt to transfer the ball to their half. If successful, one blue player will enter into the Red Grid and attempt to steal back. Only one defender can enter at a time.

Progression B: Once the rhythm of Progression A is established, move to progression B. Remove one ball, and all players play on one grid, alternating teams in each box (3b, 3r, 3b, 3r). Now, when a team reaches 3 passes, one player moves outside of grid to receive a pass, and they attempt to transfer the ball to their teams' other grid via pass. The player that passed then returns to their starting grid, and the 3v1 continues in that grid. Only one defender in a grid at a time. Defenders can move into a receiving grid, once a pass is made towards the grid (can advance to defenders moving in early). Defenders can pass to either grid when they win ball. Play continuous. No defense outside the grid to start.

Scoring: Progression A = every 3 passes - 1 pt. Progression B = every transfer of the ball - 1pt. Play to 5 and reset.

Coaching:

- Correct all passing technique. Rolling, Accuracy, Pace, and Open Hips. Foot, body, and knee positions

- Teach movement off the ball every time ball moves. Ball moves, we move.

- Progression B should time movement into space based on visual cues.

- Can we receive open to the next target?

Positional Tactical Rondo

Setup: 50 x 35 yd grid. 4 10x10yd boxes on corners. Hexagon in middle (each line of hexagon is 15 yds.

Game: Naturally set up in 3-2-1 shape. Ball starts with one center defender and team must make one pass to center mid before transferring ball to the other half of the grid. This is the only rule about passing. Ball can be touched across line by mid or passes acrossed. Attempt to play 2 touch.

Movement rules:

- center defender must stay in box between goals

- outside defenders must stay in their defending triangle on defense. On offense, they can move to the outside area of the other defenders triangle to receive a pass. Never enter opponents defending triangle

- center mids can move freely inside hexagon

- strikers can never enter defenders zone, but they attempt to time run into box to receive a pass for goal. When a striker scores, he immediately gives ball to center defender and play resumes.

Scoring: Every ball received in the goal areas = 1 pt

Coaching:

- Scan, plan, and play.

- Fool defender. Make run out and then back in. Keep moving and keep open.

- Strikers follow ball movement to know which goal to make run and receive in.

- Center mids play off of each other.

- outside defenders make good movement to receive outside defenders. Stay in split positions.

- Center defenders stay available for drop, and look to distribute quickly.

Real Madrid Game like Progression

Setup: Half field or 50x50. Angled off 18 box becomes a defending zone that blue team cannot enter on defense. Two small goals and one big counter goal.

Game: Balls all start with keeper rolling out. Red team tries to work it out to score on the two small goals. If blue wins the ball outside the defending zone, they can attempt to counter to the larger goal. Set blue up in a 2-2-1. Blue must retreat out of defending zone whenever goal receives the ball. Goalie must roll ball to someone in the defending zone. Progress to two- or one-touch if too much dribbling or group advanced.

Scoring: Any goal = 1pt

Coaching:

- Is there triangulation of movement to support?

- Are the outside defenders making the overlapping runs into mid?

- Is the striker moving side to side and providing a deep angle?

- Is the center defender moving to support at all times?

- Can the keeper make an accurate pass to the open man?

- Side on.

- Blue team = pressure, cover, support. move as a unit.
