A 20 minute drill I love to use, I like this drill as there are so many variations you can use and make it enjoyable and fun, its quite a physical one but can be very benefitial to players in a variety of ways, I use it to try and help players appreciate having possession of the ball, nobody wants to be running after players and chasing the ball for 90 minutes, I try to explain to my teams as long as we have the ball they cant score.

As a progression from the first exercise I would add 2 mini goals on opposite corners, the rules are all the same with regard to making a 8 v 4 overload situation but the condition this time instead of 10 passes a goal is that all 4 players on your team must get at least 1 touch of the ball before scoring a goal in one of the mini goals, I think adding goals always generates a bit more excitement and enjoyment for the players as they always seem to give a little bit more when hitting a net is involved, as in exercise 1 I would play 2 minute games until each team has completed the cycle and had 4 minutes in the middle, a 6 minute exercise that would lead into the final exercise in the drill on screen 3.

Moving on to the final exercise of the drill, while still trying to make use of a 8 v 4 overload, in the middle this time I would number each team 1 to 4,with the final condition being that you can only tackle your own number but score a goal from anywhere, once again 2 minute mini games until every team has completed the cycle and had 4 minutes in the middle, a 20 minute drill that can be really enjoyable

A possession and overload drill based around 12 players, I am training with seniors here so have a 30 yard square with a ten yard space coned in the middle of each edge of the square, players space and time can easily be adjusted to suit players/age group.
Split te players into groups of 4 and colour each team with bibs, here Reds Blue and Yellows, I try and keep the Defenders, Midfielders and Attackers together in their groups so that although its not a real game they are still familiarising themselves with players who will be around them in a game situation it also makes for a fun competition,
Set the yellows within the 10 yard spaces around the edge of the square, the Yellows can only move within this 10 yard space on the line, with the Reds and Blues in the middle of the square ready to play, to start its Reds versus the Blues and the condition for this first exercise is 10 passes a goal, whoever is in possession of the ball (Reds or Blues) also have the Yellows on their team and can use them as and when they wish, this creates a 8 v 4 situation for whoever is in possession, if a pass is made to a Yellow on the outside the Yellow must ruturn to the team in posssession and Yellows cannot be tackled, once 10 passes are complete its a goal and possetion starts again with the opposite team, if theres a misplaced pass or ball played out of zone possesion starts again with the opposite team, I would run this game for 2 minutes then change out Reds for Yellows and play for another 2 minutes then finallly change out the Blues for Reds for another 2 minutes to complete the cycle, every team would have had 4 minutes in the middle, a 6 minute exercise I would then progress in screen 2.
