Week 6: Passing Technique (inside of foot)

-Introduce MVP system as soon as players get to the field

-Introduce bounce juggles (ABC's) for players that are early on arrival

-when all players show up be creativity and tell about the theme of the session: Halloween Mini Games!

-Start with warm up then progress then choose Game 1 or Game 2 until SSG for end of the session

-Reinforce principle of play and restart of the week

 

MVP point system (describe to players at the beginning of practice)

 -all players start with 5 MVP points at the beginning of practice

-a player will receive 1 MVP point if they are being a good listener, trying their hardest, and demonstrating improvement in desired skill moves

-a player will lose 1 MVP point if they are not listening to coach, distracting the group, and not participating in the session.

-give the MVP award at the end of practice to the player with the most MVP points at the end of practice

-emphasize what it means to be reward the MVP of the practice session to inspire players to try their hardes

Warm Up: Haunted House Gates (5 mins)

Organization

-30x20 field

-several gates spread around the field

-players in pairs 

-1 soccer ball per pair 

 

Instructions

Warm up: Haunted House Gates

players will be paired up and will visit different haunted houses(gates) around Westchester. In order to visit different houses they have learn how to pass with the inside of their foot before they can go on a spooky adventure to travel to different haunted houses.  Keep a secret that Coach will be scare crow that will try to scare intruders (players) away! until the progression part of this warm up.

 

1. player without the ball will be on their toes ready to receive the soccer ball from teammate

2. player with ball will pass the ball to their teamate using the inside part of the foot 

3. receive player will take 2 touches (1 touch to control the ball with their inside and 1 touch to pass the ball back to teammate) 

3. first team to make 15 passes will say "BOO!" 

 

Variation 2: Pass and move through haunted house gates

 

1. same set up as first activity 

2. now player that receives will take a touch into another open gate 

3. teammate will follow and continue to get as many gates in 2 minutes

4. each time a pair goes through a gate it will worth 1 point 

5. make it into a competition: the team that gets the most gates in 2 minutes will receive 1 MVP point each

Progressions

1.Coach is the scare screw and will atempt to steal soccer balls from the intruders (players) moving around the haunted houses

2. if defender wins the ball they must score in any pug goal 

3. first team to visit 10 haunted houses without losing their soccer ball will win 1 MVP point  each

Pre K Game 1: Ghost Busters (10 mins)

Instructions

Game 1: Ghost Busters 

Ghosts (players) are dribbling around the haunted town of Sleepy Hollow. There is talk of a Ghost Buster (coach) who wandering around the town of Sleepy hollow who is trying to scare ghosts away from his town. The Ghost Buster is ready to knock soccer balls away to scare away the intruders of his haunted town. 

1. each player will dribble around the haunted town of Sleepy Hollow making noises to summon the Ghost Buster 

2. The Ghost buster will dribble around the grid and he says "GHOST BUSTER!" he will come into the field to scare the players  away

3. the objective of the game is for the Ghost Buster (coach) to hit as many soccer balls as he can from the players dribble around using the inside part of their foot 

4. If a player gets their ball knocked away from the Ghost Buster then that player will become a ghost buster

5. last player to have their ball will win the Game and be rewarded 1 MVP point

6. the ghost buster who hits the most soccer balls will be rewarded 2 MVP points  

Progression:

1. every player is a ghost buster

2. the player to hit the most soccer balls with the inside part of their foot in a 90 second round is crowned the best Ghost Buster!

Organization

  • 30x20 field
  • create 3-4 small 5x5 squares with 1 tall cone 
  • split players into 2 colors
  • Monsters with a ball 

Instructions 

Kindergarten Game 2: Guardians vs Monsters 

the fight between good vs evil has broken out. Ask players who wants to be guardians and who wants to be monsters. As monsters are out to create chaos by knocking down as many cones as they can

1. monsters (player with the ball) with the must try to make a pass to knock done a cone being protected by the guardians (defenders) 

2. if a guardian protects and wins the ball they will bring it inside a square

3. if all monsters knock down all the 3 cones then they will the win after a 2 minute round

5. if guardians protect all of their cones after a 2 minute then they will in the game 

6. in order to retrieve their ball a monster must do 10 toe taps/pendulums or 5 bounce juggles in order to go back to the game

7. alternate attackers and defenders after each round of play

-head up when dribbling

-constant movement to protect cone 

-check over shoulders scanning for pressure

1. Only have 1 ball in play

2. Monsters must pass the ball to each other to try to knock down all of the cones on the play in a 2 minute round

3. if guardians win the ball they can pass to each other in order to score a goal in any pug goal

Instructions

 

Kindergarten Game 3:  Dracula Castle vs  Zombie Pyramid Knockdown 

There has been a war between team dracula and team zombie. Each spooky type of character will try to knock down their opposite home base by using their soccer ball as wrecking balls to knock down each other's fort. 

 

1.each team will give be a given 5-6 tall cones in order to create a "Castle" (structure with cones)

2. the team must get together and build their structure in a 1 minute time limit

3. when coach says "WRECKING BALL!" they must dribble to the opposite side and make a pass in order to knock down the opponents Castle/Pyramid

4. the first team to knock down the opposite team's fort will win 1 MVP each player

-have two fields to make 2 small sided games going on at same time  

-spare balls on the side of goals

-2v2, 3v3 or 4v4 for Pre K/ Kindergarten (No GK's for pug goals)

-guide players on team shape & restarts 

-observe the flow of the game

-step in to deliver a coaching point when it is appropriate to the situation

-pick your coaching moment (freeze!, natural stoppage, restart, individual reference) 

-paint the picture of the desired movement, skill, restart or soccer rule

2. encourage teammates move into space when player has possession of the ball, to create gaps for player in possession and options for the players to pass to

3. guide players on when to dribble, pass or shoot

 

Restart of the Game Week 6: Goal Kick

 

demonstrate players on when and how  to set up on a goal kick 

 

Principle of Play Week 6: Support

 

paint the picture for players on the scrimmage when to provide width or length to the player in possession on the ball. Use buzzwords such as "unbroken lines" or "angles" to provide support to their teammate in possession.
