Attacking play - Principles of attack
1v1 Creating finishing opportunities
Set Up:
Players in pairs, with one pair defending.
Defenders 'locked in zones'.
Defenders look to regain & score in target goals.
Offside after poles.
Coach with good supply of balls.
2 minute sets.
Instructions:
Supporting Angles and Distances
- Coach feeds the ball in to create a 2v1 scenario.
- Player without the ball must decide to support behind, around or ahead.
- Player with the ball, can you take a positive touch and break the line.
Shoot or Assist?
- In and around the box, who is best placed to score?
- Time of run to stay onside.
- Weight of pass.
- Type of finish.

- Remove the zones.
- Defenders now dictate - press/drop.
- Might be opportunity/space to run behind.
- If defenders win possession or force play outside the area, attackers swap roles.

Set Up:
Small sided game - Tik Tak Total
Use mini goals if no GKs. If you have one GK, set one bigger goal up.
Adaptation & Progression
Vary numbers in an overload game to work on outnumbered possession. Use a magic man with odd numbers. Set a minimum scoring total (example 3 passes or if you beat your defender in a 1v1).
Instructions/Learning:
Players working on keeping possession and choose when to progress. They are rewarded for beating the defender through a skill technique, short pass, or finding a long pass with their team mate in a position to score.

Physical movement to support, forward runs, recovery.
Technical details of passing and receiving, finishing, combination play.
Psychological - patience, decisions under pressure, awareness.
Social - communication and togetherness.

Individual technique - Ball Mastery Players with a ball each in 15x15 boxLearning:'Ball Mastery and Controlling Surfaces' curriculum. The idea is simply that the better each player is with the ball at their feet, the better they can play their role in the team. We want our players to enjoy and love being on the ball, developing excellent technical capabilities where they can execute a wide range of moves, tricks and turns and control the ball comfortably especially when under pressure.Each session has 5 skills for the players to master ranging from static controlling techniques through to complex turns to beat an opponent when traveling with the ball.
