Technical Warm up - Defending

Organization: As shown.

Instructions: Groups of 2. One player starts with the ball and is to dribble to the cone. The other player is to be in front of the dribbler and shadow-defend dribbler.  Switch the dribbler when reached the cone.

Coaching Points/Questions:

In line with the dribbler, pressure on the ball, deceleration on approach, body position ("Surfing" "boxing stance" ), staying on toes, be patient, decide when to tackle. "Touch tight" - within arms length of dribbler when defending.

1v1 - Defending

Organization: 10x20.

Instructions: 1v1

Coaching Points/Questions:

What are you defending? (the goal)

Where should you be when defending? (goal side - between the player with the ball and the goal)

How should you defend? (surfing - one foot forward and the other back, knees bent)

When should you defend? (when we don't have the ball)

Why should you defend? (so the other team doesn't score)

Who should defend? (everyone in the team that doesn't have the ball)

-Pressure attacker to force mistakes.

-You don't always have to win the ball but as long as the other team doesn't score, you did a good job, and even better if you win the ball back.

-Use the lines to your advantage, the attacker has limited space.

-Should both players defend or press the player with the ball? (Depends)

- When does it depend? (where the ball is and where on the field the game is played)
