Method: 11 v 11 Game
Red (1-4-2-3-1) vs Blue (1-4-3-3)
Orientation Stage:
Learning Stage:
- Looking for good team shape
- 9,11, 7, 10 working together to cut pitch in half?
- Can we make play predictable?
- Can we win the ball closer to goal and score?
- Can we stay compact and connected so they can't play THROUGH?
- Once 9 cuts the pitch in half Blue might play it to the BLUE left-back, the RED 7 is tight with the front three to be able to anticipate the pass and CURL his run to be "GOAL SIDE/BALL SIDE" to lure the opposition to play into a potential 4 v 3 overload in the middle (6, 8, 10 + 9 vs Blue 6, 8, 10) so RED can win the ball and counter.
- The Red back unit is COMPACT while facing the same way as the first defender while coaching the FRONT THREE to fill gaps when they occur. The goalkeeper is well-positioned for OVERs and making sure the far-side defender (2 or 3) is "Closing the door" and lined up with the back post to create a 3v2 at the back or NUMBERS UP. Everyone must have an opposition player on their RIGHT/LEFT SHOULDER.
- Red 6, 8, 10 are compact in their unit, and coaching the 7, 11, 9 in front of them to screen any gaps to prevent any through passes and with controlled aggression
- NO TURNS, NO SPACE TO PLAY LONG DIAGONALS, NO POSITIVE TOUCHES past defenders - "Goal side, ball side".
Implementation Stage:- Observe if players can implement the learning
- Use natural stops to relay information to units/individual players
- Coach in the flow
- Add scenario: Reds are 1-0 up and cannot draw to progress to the next round of the Cup
Debrief: (Start) Debrief with opposition:- "What was your goal in the session?", "Was it easy to do?", "Why?"
- "Midfielders, what was it like for you?", "Back unit, you?"
- "Did it get harder?", "Why?"
