In this diagram you'll notice the defensive structure / unit slides accross to the strong side, where the ball is to close space and prevent forward passing.

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
In this scenario the back 4 push up quickly , after a negative pass backward, reducing playing time for the attacking team and potentially leaving their 9 or 10 offside.

The defending team must be aware to ealy long balls and position themselves in a position to recover quickly ensuring cover is correct.

Objective:
In this session I aim to improve the defensive structure and to develop an understanding of defensive roles and responsibilities of our 2/3/4/5/6/8/10.
Organisation:
1/2 picth with 2 gate goals or 2 large goals if 2 keepers available. (25min)
Plenty balls at starting point half way line. 6 attacking players 6/8/7/9/10/11
Instructions:
The Red team defending work as a unit to defend the large goals, deny forward attacking opportunities, and look to intercept the ball. The attacking team attempt to score into the large goals.
Start the practice at the half way line either a defensive attacking player or the keeper playing a pass out wide to the 7 or 11. The defending team then work on shape and pressing the attacking team.
Team Task:
Work as a compact unit to prevent forward penetrating passes and to disable any fluent controlled possession.
Player Tasks:
->Knowledge of when to press the play in possession
->The back 4 push high when the attackign team play a side pass or negative back pass.
->6/8/10 prevent forward passes into the 9/10 by remaining staggered in position.
->2 and 5 to pressure 7 and 11 as high up the field as possible.
->When ball on strong side of field, 2 or 5 should cover 3 and 4, but also be aware of wide attacking players running in behind them.
->Communication is key - Call to press or slide
-> Remain goal side
Coahes Cues:
->If you're closer enough, can you win the ball, or make the player pass back.
->Can the 6 and 8 position themselves between the lines to prevent forward passes.
->Can we recover quickly into BPO , goal side of the player.
Progression:
Add in another attacking player or remove the 10 from defensive team.
