Coach 2 to focus on defending the lines
Primary Focus
General session where each team will have the opportunity to work on defending the lines so all players will gain a better understanding of this principle. The in possession team will try to play through or around the opposition, while using the target players placed at each end to score. The team out of possession will work hard to win it back.
Organisation
12 Players will be organised into three teams of 4. The white team will begin in possession and play to a blue to score. The yellow team will aim to regain possession and play to a blue target player to score and maintain possession. (transitions)
Area Size
The area size will be 25m in length and 18m wide. This can be adaptable based on the age and ability of the players.
Player No's
12 players in total, with three groups of four.
Timings
10 minutes split into 4x2 minute blocks, allowing 2 minutes break.
Explanation
A blue target player will pass the ball into the white team who will aim to play through or around the yellow team. One blue player can support the white team in the half where the ball starts from and create a 3v2 or 4v2 if you include the target player. If the white team can find ways to play through the blue player in one half and break a line to the other half to find the other outside target player, they score three goals. If they have to play around the yellow team and straight into a blue before playing into a yellow target player they score one goal.

Key Points:

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Primary Focus
Distribution (build-up breaking lines) and general handling (based on progressions utilised)
Organisation
Now the end players are both GKS, when rotating players ensure they are not always the same and players rotate across the three teams.
Explanation
To further utilise the target zone (and GK) players can now strike the ball into the GKs hands to achieve success (general handling) look to ensure players still break lines within their own zones, but can now strike the ball into the end player (GK) when in 'attacking zone'
Progressions (Harder)
- (Example A) overlapping target zone (opposed) into playing area, allowing the GK to step into the practice and have more decisions to make (opposed)
Regressions (Easier)
- (Example B) unopposed target zone for outside player (GK) to pass the ball into the practice. Allowing the GK more time to make a decision

You can flip this so the team in possession gain more points when it becomes harder for them to break a line.
