Arrival activity 1-2s (10 mins)

4 players with 2 balls as shown. 3 players by an outside cone each with 1 spare cone and 1 player who stays in the middle.

1. The 1st player plays a 1-2 with the middle player and moves to the free cone. When he / she gets there they pass the ball along the line to the player without a ball and then stays at the new cone.

2. The middle player then spins and repeats the drill with the second player who started with a ball.

After a minute or so switch the middle player. The second time around for each player change so the balls move around the square the opposite direction.

Challenge all players to have as few touches as possible, 1 touch if you can, 2 if you need it.

Ball mastery with passing (20 mins)

Players lined up as shown with a ball each behind their respective colour cones. 1 player starts behind each of the 4 gates without a ball. At the same time the first player from each line diagonally opposite each other dribble to the centre cones performing a specific ball mestery, performs a 1v1 move then passes the ball to their team mate through the gate and follows the pass to take their place. The player receiving the pass dribbles the ball to the group to their right. On the coach's command the opposite colour team then repeat the drill.

Progress to receiving the ball through the gate and going to the left rather than the right. Final progression is to have 4 players going at the same time which adds to the traffic and confusion.

Focus is on the quality of the dribble / ball mastery, the distance of the move from the cone, the accuracy and weight of the pass and the 1st touch to receive the ball through the gate to be able to move quickly away with the ball.

Quick passing and finishing (20 mins)

4 goals arranged as shown on the pitch. 2 teams play 3v3, 4v4, 5v5 plus 2 magic players depending on what numbers you have and the age / ability of the players. The team in possession has to make 3 / 4 / 5 passes then score in any goal with a first time finish. The magic players play with the team in possession and can score goals. 3 minute games or the first team to 3 goals is the winner.

Progression could be to increase the number of passes before a team can score then setting a further challenge of the first team to score in all 4 goals with the same rules as above is the winner.
