This carousel session focuses on set-pieces: Indirect and direct free kicks, penalties and corners.
Learning Objectives:
Create effective corner and indirect free kick routines for 7v7 games.
Improve shooting mechanics in penalties and direct free kicks.
Improve delivery of ball and weight of pass during set pieces.
Context:
France scored two goals from set pieces (penalty and FK) and set pieces were important at the World Cup (FIFA, 2018). Although, this could be due to the introduction of VAR giving away more penalties. Although, in regards to corners, there was a goal scored from every 29 corners in Russia compared to one in 36 in Brazil. This could be due to good headers of the ball or better delivery. Despite my context applying to a men's 11v11 game, I've decided to see if set-pieces can be effective at the U10s level. All set-piece routines will have a focus on keeping the ball on the ground. I didn't want a practice where they repeatedly used their head as it could be detrimental to their health. (Delaney et al., 2008)
