Activation - Head/Shoulder/Knee/Toe (5 mins)

Method:

  • Working in two's
  • Coach calls Head/Shoulders/Knees/Toes/Turn (or what ever instructions you like)
  • Players must react to calls
  • If coach calls colour of a cone, player must try pick up opposite. E.g. 'Orange' cone, players must sprint to 'Blue' cone. Player that loses must do forfeit (tuck jumps/push ups etc.)
  • Distance can very, depending how much work you want player to do

Coaching Points:

  • Good reaction times
  • Observation - e.g. going to correct cone
  • Works as warm up but also bit of fun. Can also be hard work!
  • Players should show some physicallity when trying to get to 'Blue' cone, i.e. use body to keep other player away or get in front

Y Passing Drill

Method:

  • A pass to B, then follow the pass
  • B moves off cone and controls with back foot, then pass to C, then follow pass
  • C dribbles back to start
  • Next set A passes to B, then B passes to D

Coaching Points:

  • Open body shape
  • Movement away from cone - simulates moving away from defender
  • Control using back foot
  • Good weight and accuracy of pass
  • Communication - Verbal & Non-Verbal

Method:

Pass & follow pass

A pass to B

B lays back to A

A pass to C

C lays back to B

B plays through pass to C

C must stay on side by holding run (before cone) until pass made. Run onto pass and shoot


Coaching Points:

  • Open body shape
  • Movement away from cone
  • Control using back foot
  • Good weight and accuracy of pass
  • Communication - Verbal & Non-Verbal
  • Only take 1 touch before shooting
  • Keep head down. Follow through. Make sure to hit the target! Go across the GK.

    Technical CPM

    Method:

    • Red & Green team working together to transfer ball
    • 1 Yellow player in the middle blocking passing lanes
    • Work for 2 mins then change
    • Keep scores. Each transfer is 1 goal for Red/Green, each interception is a goal for the Yellow. Loosers do forfit (tuck jumps, press ups etc.)

    Progression: Allow 1 Yellow player to go into the area where ball is. The 2nd yellow player can go into the opposite area, only once ball is transfered

    Coaching Points:

    • Green & Red players must create 'width' & 'depth', to maximize the space
    • Can the Red/Green team make the Yellow player work by moving the ball around their area, creating passing lanes to the Green/Red team
    • Try keep the ball on the ground
    • Using back foot control allowing switching play easier
    • Getting head up to spot passing lanes
    • Yellow team working hard to close down
    • Yellow team not diving in, blocking passing options
