Warmup - 3v2 Overlap game (25 mins)
3v2 +GK overlap game
Play 3x8 minute games, two 4' halves
30 rest/coaching between games/halves
Total time: 26'
Attacking team must have an overlapping run in their build up before scoring to have the goal count. Offsides is in effect. After 4', have teams switch sides (Attackers defend, defenders attack).
Progression: Use full width and play game 5v4 +GK (min 1 game). Players can now underlap as well as overlap, as long as one of those is done in buildup to score.
Coaching points:
- Dribble ball opposite direction to open space for overlap/underlap
- Quick attacking to catch backline out and take advantage of the numbers up
- Get the ball into the goal zone quickly to score from a high percentage chance
- Early cross if it is on behind the back line
- Winning a 1v1 wide to serve a cutback cross
