Warm up - Ball Control (10 mins)

Organization:

  • Two teams, each player with a ball.
  • Two lines, with cones spaced out 

Instructions:

  • On coaches call players start dribbling towards the cone utilizing the Step over scissor move.

Technical Coaching Points:

  • Start by stepping over the ball with one foot, making a deliberate motion as if they are going to dribble or shoot in that direction.
  • After stepping over the ball, instruct players to use a body feint to sell the fake movement. They should lean in the direction of the step-over, convincing the defender that they intend to move in that direction.
  • After completing the step-over, players should immediately push the ball in the opposite direction with the outside of their other foot.
  • Think about the approach, making sure the ball isn't too far, or too close to one's body.
  • "Entry, Execute, exit"

TTP's:

  • Staying on the ball, "Think forward Play forward": 1st intention is to always play forward and take space ahead.
  • Breaking lines exploiting the space behind the defender.

Progressions & Regressions:

  • Progression: Make it a race between teams. When the player reaches the end of the cones, and runs back to the starting spot= 1 point.
  • Regression:  Make cones wider, or break down the move more deliberately and slower I.E. the mechanics of the step over.

shooting the Target (10 mins)

Organization: 10/12min   25mx 25m 5m between players (Adjust to players needs)

Set up : cones, balls, grid size to match players abilities. balance teams

Activity: Shooting target :  Have players pick a partner One ball per group.

In the middle place a ball on the cone as the target. Players take turns using their laces or the inside of their foot to try and knock the ball off the cone. If they are successful they get a goal. if they miss their partner now looks to knock the ball down. The games is continuous until someone gets to 6 goals/points.

Using your laces 3 goals/Points using the inside 1 point

Progression 1: Once players play the first round now they must use their weaker foot. 

Progression 2: Allow players to use any foot they want.

Coaching points:
striking the ball 

eyes on the ball you are striking laces toe down, attack the ball, planting foot and shoulders facing the target, weight of the ball, part of the foot laces our inside, lean over the ball

Handball (15 mins)

Organization: 10/12min   25mx 25m (Adjust to players needs)

Set up : cones, balls, grid size to match players abilities. balance teams

Activity:  Hand Ball  Split group up into 2 equal teams. Start without GK'S .

Procedure:  Depending on numbers , set up one or two Fields. Players attack by throwing and catching the ball. The player with the ball can only take 3 steps and must pass or shoot( throw). TO score you must be in the scoring zone as indicated in the diagram. Defending players can intercept and then attack the opposite goal. you cannot grab the ball from a players hands.

Introduce the concept of space creation, (width & depth)  spreading out when they have the ball.

Progression 1: Once players understand the game now to score you must using your foot player can roll or bounce a ball to a teammate in the scoring zone and they can look to strike the ball. 

Progression 2: ADD GK'S 

Coaching points:
striking the ball (passing the ball technique)
eyes on the ball you are striking , weight of the ball, part of the foot, planting foot, lean over the ball
