Week 1
Footwork/Handling/Decision Making
set-up
4-6 yard goal depending on age
Goalkeepers set 10-15 yards apart
Goalkeepers take it in turn to either volley or strike ball off floor at opposing goalkeeper aiming to get within 1 yard either side of goalkeeper.
Working high, mid and low the focus is on the goalkeepers footwork to get 2nd barrier in and handling as well as their kicking accuracy.
work for approx. 10-15 minutes.

Week 2
Footwork/Handling
Set- up
4/6 yard goal depending on ages
players in groups of 3
1 in goal, 2 standing on designated cones
Goalkeeper moves out to one server (into line - up line)
Server starts with an under-arm/volley/strike from floor (accuracy of service important!) to work all taught techniques
-hands move straight up to ball & thumnbs come together
-keep eyes on ball with head in behind ball (2nd barrier)
-remain in set position whilst making catching whilst keeping balance (knees bent, on balls of feet, nose over toes)
6 reps/12 saves per keeper
Heels in line with post, at least an arms length away from post.
Make 1st save and return ball, spin in to get feet in line (up line) to make 2nd save.

Week 2
Handling/Footwork/Angles
Player 1 stands parrallel to by-line with goalkeeper facing, player 2 stands on angle outside far post
Keeper makes save at front post, spins round (teach power step) to move into line (up line) for 2nd service.
Serve can be kicked, volleyed or thrown depending on quality of service!
To find angle, get keepers to imagine a line from centre of goal to ball, they need to set with imaginary line passing through the centre of their body whilst setting into and up the line.
Move around in direct line to ball, maintaining control, keeping hands set, feeet not too close or too far apart, upper body square to ball and head facing ball

Week 3
2 servers standing on angles. Goalkeeper starts one side and works around to other.
Direct line to ball, in control of movement, able to stop - SET quickly to make save.
Take into account previous methods of moving across goal and handling techniques.

1st shot from angle, 2nd from centre of goal
Again, reinforce all points from previous exercises.

1/ Week 4
Footwork/Handling/Decision Making/Angles
Set-up
Set up a 5x15 box approx 15 yards away from the goal
Work in groups of 4/5 with 1 player in goal
Numer players from 1-3/4 and instruct to dribble around in the box
Coach calls number, player takes a touch and strikes ball towards goalkeeper (aiming to get within 1 yard either side of the goalkeeper)
Goalkeeper makes relevant save, ensure they are balanced and have moved into line of ball.
Goalkeeper makes 2 saves from each striker then switch.
work 2 rotations of each goalkeeper
2/ Conditioned Keeper Wars
Work in 2-4 yard goals, age dependant.
Keepers strike ball at each other, attempting to score. Goalkeepers score points for -
Scoring - 1 point
Catching an effort using hands/ footwork - 2 points
discourage use of diving at this point

Week 1
Organisation:
4 yard goals
6 yards apart
Allow goalkeepers to serve at each other, 6 deliveries each,
Recap on 3 different handling techniques; W, Cup, Scoop
Key Points:
(For all)
In line - Up line (1 big step off line and in line with the ball)
SET position
2 barriers always behind the ball.
W:
SET Position
Eyes on ball all the way into the catch
Move hands in a straight line up towards the ball, turning palms so that fingers touch
Keep elbows bent to absorb shock of shot.
Maintain balance with 'nose over toes', feet shoulder width
Don't snatch at ball
Contact with fingers 1st.
Soft hands - Strong wrists
Cup:
SET Position
Move hands forwards towards ball (palms up) little fingers touching.
Tuck elbows in to create a 'corridor'
Guide ball into chest/stomach
Secure with hands
Don't snatch at ball before contact with body
Keep head/chest over the ball to maintain balance

Attack ball with hands

Turn both feet towards the direction of the ball (if off centre)
Hands travel in a straight line towards ball, palms facing, little fingers touching
Back knee (knee furthest from ball) drops to around mid calf to create K shape
Attck ball with hands

Long Barrier
Head/chest over the ball
drop hands down towards ball, palms facing, fingers touching
Knee drops down to just above ankle
Leg creates long, straight barrier behind the ball.
Turn both feet towards direction of the ball
2 barriers.

Nearest leg to ball steps behind ball
Hands drop down
