Technical Phase (15 mins)
Technical Phase:
Red 1 plays to Blue 1 and counter presses. Red #2 must look to win possession of the ball and combine 1 pass and score in counter goals. Blue looks to score in Red counter goals.
Red 1 presses and disrupts player to direction with idea of Red 2 winning possession. Red 2 presses simultaneously on correct angle
Coaching Points
- Defend together as a pair and look to disrupt the blue from scoring easy goal
- 1st defender disrupts with high pressure - almost run through player committing opponent to one side with touch out of feet
- 2nd defender looks to win possession - stays close as 1st defenders direction of press
- Communication throughout
- 1st defender immediately recovers upon press after 2nd defender steps to opponent
- 2v2 - to goal

Skill Phase (20 mins)
Pressing/Disrupting Skill Phase.
2v2 to x3 Goals. Blue 2 plays to Blue 1 and both Red press immediately on the pass and creates 2v2. Blues attack any-one of the three counter goals.
If Red win ball and score in any of the x3 goals = 2 goals
Switch roles first team to 7 goals or 5 minutes
Out of play= next 4 players restart game!
Coaching Points
- Press the ball as it leaves opponents foot, work hardest to close space as ball rolls (left - right)
- Think of big steps to small steps (speed to balance)
- Angle of run on approach
- Communication to direct pressure teammate
- 1st player look to disrupt (poke, block, make opponent turn or push ball away)
- 2nd player take option of goal away but look to win ball where 1st defender is disrupting & directing play
- 3 Blue vs 2 Red - starts other side of Red #1

Functional Phase (20 mins)
Functional Phase:
Blue GK+5 vs Red 4: 7/11 play ball into #5/#3 or #2. Upon ball entering attacking third, Red press and look to win possession. If Red score without losing possession they get = 2goals, score within 5 passes = 3 goals.
Natural stoppage - reset and start from #7/#11 and next x4 red players enter middle third.
*No GK in Red net to emphasize high pressure to prevent shot over the top!
Coaching Points
- 11/10/9 and 9/10/7 work together to press, disrupt, direct and win possession as early as possible and as high up the field as possible.
- working in 2's and 3's and prevent switch from Blue 2 - 5 - 3 or visa versa
- Angle of run/pressure to prevent penetrating easy option to 7/11 blue
- Don't press if only pressing as a ONE, contain and work as a group (2's & 3's)
- Communication
- High work rate
- Recovery runs and shape when Red don't win the ball
- Support the ball upon winning possession/ forward runs
- Add a GK if not successful - keep blues on ball longer
- make blue have minimum of 2 touches per reception
- Entry pass from different locations (Goal kick, GK hands, #10 red etc..)

End Game Phase (20 mins)
End Game
Team must posses ball for 5 passes before shot is allowed - this encourages possession style and opportunities to work on pressing and disrupting play.
If team wins ball back in attacking thirds and scores = 2 goals
Coaching Points
- When to press and disrupt and when to contain based on supporting players positions or penetrating pass against
- Work as a unit when ball is moving side to side
- Team must look to provide immediate cover for teammate upon perpetration of line.
- Emphasize running through the ball, using body.
- Team shape when not able to press in attacking third
- If often successful in winning ball in attacking third, look to create 1st pass free but can't break the half way line to provide opportunities in containing and disrupting play in middle third.
