Session Organization

  • Half of a pitch with 2 wide channels as shown above plus a square marked with white flat discs in the centre of the practice
  • 14 players 8v6 in the reds favour
  • Red team (coached) in a 1-4-3 formation
  • Blue team (managed) in a 4-2 formation

Objectives

  • Coach will be working with the red team on the possession principles of switching play
  • blue team will be slightly managed on the the out of possession principles in relation to switching play to maximise realism throughout the practice
  • Play will always start with the gk of the red team who will look to play out from the back using one of his back 4
  • Reds are looking to score in any of the 2 small goals sat on the halfway line shown above. They need to look to switch play from one shaded zone, through the middle box if possible then to the other shaded zone before scoring
  • If blues win the ball back, in transition they got 5 seconds unopposed to get a shot off or score in the big goal with the red teams gk in

Description

  • Red full backs are only allowed to operate inside the shaded channels. This is to ensure width in attack for switching play. Also should help for when the blues win the ball back they have more chance of being successful in scoring goals or hitting the target
  • Goal can only be scored after the ball gets successfully switched from one zone to the other
  • -Goal can only be scored when the ball goes from the shaded zone though a player occupying the central zone marked with white flat discs then to the other shaded zone
  • Blues have 8 secs opposed to score a goal in transition

  • 9v9
  • Red team (coached)  in a 1-4-3-1 formation
  • Blue team (managed) in a 1-2-4-2 formation

Objectives

- play a 9v9 game

- working with the red team in relation to the correct principles of switching play

- blue team will be managed slightly on the out of possession principles of switching play to keep as much realism as possible throughout the practice

- throw ins, corners, restarts and offsides

Description

- red team must switch the play at least once before an attempt at goal

- challenge the red full backs to keep the width during the ssg

- challenge the no8 or no6 to get on the ball in a central area before switching play
