Block 3, week 1
Return to training
We come back to training after Christmas & New Year and are straight back into it.
We are going to work on movements this week and want to see good feet and hands all this block.

Weaving
Aim
To get the GK's warmed up properly and to start to work on their feet movements which we have to improve during the course of this block.
Instructions:
The GK will start behind the cones and weave his way through the cones (using a different method on each set).
When he reaches the end he will set for the service from the coach. The GK has to be given the chance to set on each occasion.
service: scoop, L & R mid; L & R ground (x3)
Coaching points:
* Short, sharp foot movements through the cones
* Setting early in the correct position
* Foward diving and securing the ball

Quick feet
Aim:
To get the GK moving with quick changes in direction in order to make a diving save
Instructions:
The GK will move through the hurdles using a 2 footed take-off and landing, upon reaching the end he will move to touch the marker with his near foot and then make a sharp movement in the opposite direction to the other marker. Once he has touched this marker with his foot he will have to make a diving save for the incoming shot.
service: L & R ground & mid
Progression:
The GK is to move around the marker instead of just touching it
Coaching points:
* Balanced movements over the hurdles
* Quick, sharp movements on the markers
* The GK is securing the ball or making a quick effort to rise for the 2nd ball.

Backwards movement
Aim
To get the GK's to be making controlled forward & backward movements while at all times looking for the trigger point in order to get set for any shot
Instructions
The GK will start in the centre of his goal and facing forward. The C will shout 3 numbers and the GK is move around each number in turn while always watching the ball. Once he has completed the 3 cones, the GK will have to move to be in-line with the ball and set for the shot on goal
(The C is to adjust his position for each set)
service: Shots can be directed to anywhere in the goal
Progression:
The coach can shoot at any time, the GK has to watch for him moving and get into position and set before the trigger point.
Coaching points:
* Quick, balanced movements throughout
* Strong set position, does the GK have to move backwards to give him time to react?
* Diving forward!

Through ball
Aim
To help the GK make decisions with regards to his posititon when a ball is played through on goal
Instructions
The GK will start in the centtre of the goal and in-line with c1. c1 will play a through ball to c2 who will meet the ball and have a shot on goal.
The GK has to make a decision with regards to his position depending on where the ball is played
service: shots to any position in the goal
Progression
The GK is to rise quickly and move over for the 2nd shot from c1
Coaching points:
* The GK is moving quickly to get in-line with the ball and set for the shot
* The GK is making the correct decision with regards to the type of save needed
* The GK is rising quickly for the 2 nd shot on goal

Shooting drill
A quick movement drill where the Gk is going to have to make 2 save quickly
Instructions
The GK starts in the centre of his goal, facing forwards. 3 numbers are shouted and that is the order which the GK has to save the incoming shots.

Instructions
The GK will start at the orange cone. The coach will shout a series of colours and the GK will be required to touch these in order.
