Set-Up:
- 20x20 yard area split into two 20x10 areas.
- Players will leave their bags and water in the blue coned area.
- Players will be split into two teams by the coach as they arrive, two players will receive white vests. Players will juggle, or dribble until there are at least 3 payers at the session.
- Once there are enough players; the players will get into groups and begin by passing back and forth.
- After passing, the player receiving the ball will dribble for a few touches, allowing the player who passed the ball to close them down.
- Once the player closes down, the next player will then make their pass and close down.
- Switch sides once you are done.
Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):
Progression: Players will look to close down every time they pass the ball. There will be no tackling but we will be looking at the technique of closing down appropriately.
Progression: Players who receive the ball can dribble at 75% to make it harder for the defender to close them down.
Regression: Player receiving the ball must wait for the player who is defending without dribbling.
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:
- Time your challenge.
- Use the poke or block tackle.
- Be on your toes for quick movement.
- Eyes on the ball.
- Can we close down quickly.
- Slight angle to make play predictable.
- Side on when defending.
- Get low.

- Neutral players are allowed into any grid to make it a 3v1 for the team in possession.
- Red and blue players cannot leave their grid but are waiting to receive a pass to keep possession for their team.
- Any time a defender wins the ball in a 3v1 situation, or forces the ball out of bounds, their team gets a point.
- If the defender wins the ball in a 3v1 situation and makes a pass to keep possession, they get 3 points.
