This session focusses on Transition into possession and how we use that to exploit the oppositions shape and creating a goalscoring opportunity within less than 5 passes. The session is fast paced and delivered in short bursts of 3-4 mins. Players need to be moving into attacking and defensive shapes as possession goes to and fro.

Key Factors
Organisation
Conditions
a. 5 passes maximum for team in possession
b. Team in possession can shoot at any time, if they do not shoot within 3 seconds of the 5th pass then the ball in their possession is dead and new ball given to a player on opposing side within their defensive half and play re-starts from there immediately (fast balls in to drive transition
c. If play is slow or players are running with the ball then implement a 3-5 second cap on possession
d. If the defending team win the ball back then they can attack (5 pass rule still applies)
e. No throw ins, no corners. Play restarts from coach playing the ball to the team that were defending
Scoring
Normal goals or:
1 point for forward players scoring, 2 points for nominated full backs scoring (we want to encourage FBs to travel forward)
Blocks
a. Securing first pass, anticipating the transition
Are players recognising and responding to ball being won back (tiggers such as touch too far, intercepting a pass etc.)
Who is supporting the player on the ball when it is won back - if it is won back are they too close and so require to move back or are they too far away so need to get closer. Body position - are they set to play a pass wide.
Are attacking players getting into posistions to take the pass in a wide area. Are they communicating
b. Playing forward quickly
Ball movement to be fast and driven on ground allowing receiving player to gain control
Attacker receiving sideways on and on front foot allowing them to push forward and attack space or isolated defenders
Off the ball who is moving forward: ACM joining centrally, FB attempting to overlap
c. Creating shooting opportunities
Width to open up defensive team,
finding spare man,
committing players in 1v1s (being brave),
playing into space to runners
