This session is about taking care of the ball through individual shielding/dribbling and passing to teammates. It is a good introduction to possession for young players as it addresses shape, movement off the ball, technique of passing/receiving, etc.

Same set up as before, but now each pair of attackers has one ball.
The defenders are still trying to touch a ball with their foot for a point before tagging up with their partner, but now the attacker has the option to SHIELD, ESCAPE ON THE DRIBBLE, OR PASS TO THEIR PARTNER.
Keep score the same way, 2 defending pairs add their scores for a total - color with the highest total wins
Encourage players to not panic on the ball, if there is no immediate passing option, shield the ball until their partner becomes available. Also encourage good movement off the ball from the supporting partner as well as good angles and distance of support

Same set up, but now all 4 attacking players have only 1 ball which they try to keep possession of from 1 defender who is simply trying to touch the ball with their foot. Again, if the defender is successful they tag up with their partner who now enters the grid to defend. Points are totalled by the two pairs of defenders, color with the highest number wins.
Encourage good angles and distance of support, receiving the ball with the proper foot and body shape and movement off the ball. Players still have the opportunity to keep possession by SHIELDING if no passing options are available - DON'T PANIC ON THE BALL.

2 Players begin as defenders, 4 attackers attempt to keep possession of the ball.
If the 2 defenders win the ball, they now transition into attack and the team that gave away possession transitions into defense and the game continues without stoppage.
Encourage quick transitions, good shape, angles and distance of support, movement off the ball, and awareness. If the ball goes out of play, the team responsible for losing possession is defending.

Warm-up - Shielding (10 mins)
2 grids - Each with 6 players in 3 colors
The 2 yellow players (defenders) begin the exercise by sending one player into the grid to attempt to touch one of the blue or red player's (attackers) ball with their foot.
If successful touching a ball or forcing an attacker to dribble out of the grid they win a point and tag hands with their defending partner on the outside who now enters the grid.
The attackers attempt to SHIELD the ball when under pressure to keep possession
The pair of defenders keep track of how many points they earn and add their score with the other defenders.
Rotate the defending pair after no more than a minute and have the defending pairs compete for the highest score
