Clearing and 2nd phase defending (10 mins)

Organization:

-Grid size is box on box

-neutral servers on the outside, backline of 4 defending one goal, 4 including HMs defend opposite goal

-ball starts with unopposed server from wide player

-2nd ball comes in from coach in middle of grid

  -give directly to black if poor clearance

  -bounce, drop, toss in for red to head and black or wide neutral to pick up 

-after 2nd ball go to the opposite goal

-can progress to wide player cutting ball back from line, coming inside, every player in the 4 gets a clearance

Objective:

-emphasis on technical ability while clearing

-backline integrity within wide service

-defending of 2nd phase from set pieces, and service

Emergency Defend the Box:

- Organization:

  • Black team Attacks the Goal
  • neutral players high and wide, coach is central and runs activity
  • Red team defends goal and tries to play out to small goal
  • Black team will have various starting positions and objectives - must make pass before scoring, must play wide before scoring
  • Red team will have various starting positions that will representemergency defending scenarios and rebuilding of our backline

Objective:

  • specific defending scenarios of back to goal
  • Backline understanding pressure, cover, balance roles
  • communication within emergency defending scenarios
  • Shot blocking scenarios and not being overly committed
  • Clearing, goal side defending, back post defending - playing the odds
