KeyFactors
Understand when and how to exploit anumerical advantage against the opposition.
Setup
· Areasize is 36m x 44 (2 x 18 Yard boxes).
· Canbe set up with 1 goal/GK or 2 as in diagram.
· 2sets of teams; can adapt depending on available numbers
Explanation
· Red1 will receive a ball from the coach and go into a 1v1 with the blue GK. Thenthe blue team are then given a ball and are 2 v 1 towards the goal to the left.As soon as the ball goes dead a 3rd ball is fed into one of the wide players(Red) to create a 3v2 in the opposite direction left to right. The original Reddefender becomes one of the 3 attackers. When the ball dies the coach feeds ina final ball to the blues who are in a 4v3 attacking the goal on the left.
· Thecoach / tutor is to work with ONE team only, in this case the blues on how theexploit the reds and utilise the numerical advantage. If the opposition, thereds in this case, win possession back at any time they can drive into theopposite goal within a managed countdown but MUST return to their own halfimmediately. They will carry on the focus of the practice which is creating andexploiting overloads in their favour but not be coached.
· Coach1: Work with the blues to create / exploit the overload / opposition &maintain realism when the blues are defending
· Coach2: Maintain realism of the reds when they attack, ensure defensive realsim whenthey are out of possession
· Swaproles at ten minutes
Progressions/Challenges
· 1vGK tostart
· Then oneach turnover of the ball progress for Red to have advantages with 2v1, 3v2,4v3 and end with 4v4.
· Red &Blue can switch priorities at the end of the run but if Blue win the ball theyshould proceed to attack Red with the players on the pitch.
CoachingPoints
· Bebrave with the overload / numerical advantage and encourage the players to becreative in how the manipulate the defensive players.
· Encouragecreativity in 1v1s and the 2v1 / 3v2 / 4v3. Challenge the players to come upwith the solutions to how the beat the defensive players whilst guiding themvia different intervention strategies. Potentially limit the players’ touches /time on the ball especially in the attacking half. You may as the coach want tomanage a countdown to make the practice as realistic as possible especially ifthe opposition are getting success regularly and eating into your coachingtime. The coach is to encourage players to stay 'onside' in the attacking half.
