WARM UP (10 mins)

ORGANISATION OF SESSION

- Area size 40x30 yards

- Before players arrive set out coned area ready, get bibs, balls etc ready for players arrival.

- Set up SSG pitch with it being the largest area, Warm up/technical/skill areas set up inside SSG area to keep transitions between drills quick.

- Expecting 12 players.

- Coned area close to the pitch for quick drink breaks to allow more ball time during session.

WARM UP ORGANISATION - WARM UP TIME ALLOCATION - 10 MINUTES

- Get a ball each.

- Start dribbling within the coned area, avoiding cones set out for upcoming drills as you go.

- After roughly 4-5 minutes, introduce the gates, players must dribble through the gates when they see an opportunity to.

- Keep this up for the remaining 5-6 minutes, setting challenges to the group/individuals as time goes on (Challenges that could be set mentioned below)

COACHING POINTS

- Close ball control.

- Head up to observe space around you.

- Changing direction to avoid cones/players.

- Use different areas of your foot to keep the ball under control. (inside, outside and front of your foot)

- Awareness is key - Especially when the gates are brought into play, if someone else is going through a gate dribble into space, only go through the gate if it is free.

- If there is space, nudge the ball further in front of you and increase pace, if you are in a tight area keep the ball closer to you to avoid losing control of the ball.

- Go at your own pace, keeping the ball under control is more important than going as fast as you can, go faster the more confident you become.

CHALLENGES FOR THE GROUP.

- How many times can you go through the gates?

PROGRESSION FOR INDIVDUALS

- Can you only use your weaker foot.

- Can you dribble using just the outside of your foot.

REGRESSION FOR INDIVIDUALS
- If I spot individuals struggling, just reiterate it is not a race, and keeping the ball under control if the most important aspect of this session speed will come with practice.

TECHNICAL (15 mins)

AFTER WARM UP LET THE PLAYERS HAVE A DRINK, WHILST THEY ARE HAVING A DRINK REMOVE THE ORANGE CONES (GATES)  FROM THE PLAYING AREA.

ORGANISATION OF TECHNICAL DRILL - TIME ALLOCATED - 15 MINS

- Area size 40x30 yards.

- Get into groups of 3

- 1 ball per group of 3

- 2 Players at bottom end of grid, 1 player at the top end of grid.

- Player 1 will preform a slalom dribble through the 2 cones, when player 1 gets passed the 2nd cone he will give a side foot pass to player 2, player 2 will repeat this but going to other direction, and then pass to player 3 and so on.

- This will go on for 7.5 minutes roughly as it is, I will then set individual or group challenges dependant on how successful the technical drill is being executed.

COACHING POINTS

- Close ball control.

- Head up to see the spaces available to you.

- Reiterate using different areas of your foot to keep the ball under control (inside, outside, front)

- Go at your own pace, keeping the ball under control is more important than going as fast as you can, go faster the more confident you become.

- Play a nice side foot pass to the player receiving the ball, you want to make it as easy as possible for them to start their dribble well.

PROGRESSION IF DRILL IS GOING WELL FOR GROUP OR JUST INDIVIDUALS

- Dribble using just the front or outside of your foot.

- In the middle section in between the 2 cones perform a skill, step overs or a feint before you move onto passing phase (demonstrate to group or individuals before letting them play again)

- Try and use weak foot at some point of the dribble movement.

REGRESSION IF DRILL ISNT GOING SO WELL.

- Take the first cone away, just run with the ball in a straight line and pass when you get to the 2nd cone.

SKILL (15 mins)

 (DRINKS BREAK FOR PLAYERS).

ORGANIATION OF DRILL - TIME ALLOCATED - 15 MINS

- Area Size - 40x30 yards

- Everything already in place from previous drill to make quick transition between drills.

- Organise players into 4 groups of 3.

- 3 attacking players in Zone A, 3 defending players in Zone B.

- The Attacking players start with the ball and dribble to the first set of cones, while Player A dribbles the defending player B can move forward and shadow defend/close down, Player A will the change direction and Dribble into the shaded area in the image provided then run through the last set of cones.

- Player A will then join the Defending players line, and Player B will join the Attacking players line.

- If Left Footed you can perform drill the other side of the zone, make sure the defending player is opposite you before you start.

COACHING POINTS

- Close ball control.

- Head up to see spaces available to you.

- Reiterate using different areas of your foot to keep the ball under control (inside, outside, front)

- Use the outside of your foot to change direction and quickly to make sure you get passed the oncoming opposition player.

- Keep the ball under control through the shaded area using the dribbling techniques we've done throughout the session.

- Finish with a short sharp burst of pace through the last cone, to create real life situations as if your getting away from your defender.

- Go at your own pace, keeping the ball under control is more important than going as fast as you can, go faster the more confident you become.

PROGRESSION (COULD BE THE WHOLE GROUP OR JUST CERTAIN INDIVIDUALS)

- Allow the defender to tackle to attacking player.

- Perform a skill move (stepover and feint) to get into the shaded area.

REGRESSION

 - Keep the drill the same, without progressing. So the defenders only shadow defend and don't tackle the attackers.

SSG (20 mins)

 (DRINKS BREAK FOR PLAYERS)

ORGANSATION OF SSG - TIME ALLOCATION - 20 MINS

- Pitch size 6v6 Under 9 = 40x30 yards

- Create channels using cones on the wide areas of the pitch.

- Wide Zones separated into 4 sections, 2 attacking wide zones for the Red Team, 2 attacking wide zones for the Blue Team.

- A maximum of 1 player from each team is allowed in each channel at a time, these are allocated players, not just anyone can go in the wide zone during the game.

- To score a goal, a wide player must have a touch of the ball in the build up to the goal.

- Encourage the players to dribble in the wide areas and emphasise what we've worked on in todays session.

COACHING POINTS

- Let the game flow, like a real match on the weekend would, but ...

- Encourage players to pass the ball into the wide areas.

- When in the wide areas look to dribble down the line when possible.

- Reiterate what has been taught throughout the session, When in the wide areas use close ball control, using different parts of your foot to keep the ball under control (inside, outside, front, sole)

PROGRESSION

- Take away the middle 2 cones in the wide areas, and create a 1v1 situation in the wide areas allowing tackling between the 2 allocated wide players from each team, encourage running with the ball, and dribbling passed there opponent when possible.
