Trap the Opposition's CB in a 1v1

Session Plan:

Aim of the session is to create the 4-3-3 into a 4-1-4-1 with the intention to trap the CB in a wider area in a 1v1 with the winger. The players from this session need to understand how if the CB reconnects with the goalkeeper to escape how both they can reactive the trap to trap the opposite side CB in a 1v1 but also how to protect themselves with the CDM from being man-for-man (3v3) in the back line.

Set Up:

Focus Team (Grey) - Set up 4-3-3 with a transition into 4-1-4-1
Opposition Team (Red) - Set up in a 4-2-3-1.

Focus Team set in a Mid-block to allow the opposition to move the ball into the trap.

Pictures to Create:

The Number 8 will drop slightly off their man to allow them to receive, they will trigger onto the player as they are passed the ball, force the opposition to bounce it straight back.

When the CB receives the ball, the Fullback will step up (With the back line sliding into a back 3 man for man whilst the CDM will drop slightly off to support if needed).

The freed-up winger will then be able to engage the press on the CB attacking them from their strongest foot, meaning the CB is in the 1v1 or will be forced to play long. Going back to the keeper will allow the Striker to engage with the rest of the team move back into shape to engage the opposite side if needed. The advanced Fullback will need to drop slightly to support the back line and create the overload whilst the CDM steps to prevent the "10" getting the ball.
