Directional Rondo (20 mins)

Set up

- Three teams, two areas with a switching zone for one player of the opposite team to receive unopposed and play to their side.

- A number of passes have to be made before switching to the other side.

- One team starts off trying to win the ball, attacking the goal in that area if won, normal match rules apply for outs and restarting.

- Play is continuous until the defending/ pressing team takes possession or a time limit is hit.

- Points are won for hitting the time limit, plus managing to switch the player after the number of passes is reached.

Technical Circle 1 (20 mins)

Set up

- Players split into two, half around the outside of the circle and half within, starting around the middle area.

- Each player in the middle has a football, looking to scan and pass into a player on the outside.

- To begin with, a pass is played into the path of the player and they swap, after a while, it is progressed to a one-two combination after passing, creating angles for receiving.

Progression

- Each team has one ball, which starts with one of the two outside players, positioned opposite each other.

- Position other teams in a way that will traffic will be created, and the teams will cross paths.

- A pass is played into the central players who look to pass to each of their players in the middle before switching to the other side.

- After passing into the outside player, the passer then replaces the receiver.

- The outer circle players move to another position around the circle; this forces the players to scan.

Technical Circle 2 (20 mins)

Set up

- Three teams, split equally. Two inside the circle and one around the whole area.
- Teams have to keep possession and find an opportunity to play through the middle, taking possession of the ball for a point.
- The team around the circle are safe, able to move around the circle and not be challenged, playing it back into the teams who chose to play into them.
- Nobody from the two teams in the middle is to go outside of the circle or into the square in the middle.
- Teams change after so many points, each team becomes the safety team around the area.

Progression

When successfully making a pass through the middle area and keeping possession, that team can they break out to score in either big goal occupied w/ a GK.

- When the goalkeeper is not active, they can be used as a safety player to switch play if needed.

End to End (20 mins)

Set up

- Two teams within three sections. Game relatable positions that are rotated every three attempts.

- The ball is played in by the coach into any player within the starting third, alternating sides.

- Players try to progress up the field, searching for a pass or space to dribble into to progress into the next section, with no pass limits.

- The player to pass into the next third is able to join the attack, but only one player.

- Recycling the ball is encouraged if required.

Progression

- Replace two goals with one

- Remove areas and move into a match

Learning Variations (15 mins)

Set up

- Setup the pitch with poles/ big cones to represent players in a formation, which can be adjusted as the session progresses.

- GK in one end to play the ball out from the back to one group as well as protecting the goal from the other group.

- Starting from opposite ends, the goal with the positioned GK is to be challenged with shots. 

- The other goal has no GK to have pinnies and cones as targets (collecting the ball afterwards ready for the next group to use). 

- To begin with, each player is positioned in their usual starting position. After playing out from the back with different variations a set number of times, or on the coaches call, players move to a position close by (i.e. following their pass).

- Three variations could be playing out to LB/RB, CB, CDM/CM and the players have the choice of how to play out from the back there.

Progression

- Swap player positions.

 - Add a small number of defenders to challenge (numbers).

Zonal Progression (15 mins)

Set up

- Players are given positions within the four zones of the half-way pitch. 

- Rotate players & roles when necessary.

- Players have to stick to their zones, but when receiving the ball they are able to come deeper into the defensive zones. 

- The idea for the defending side is to play out from the back and take or pass the ball through the three gates half-way.

- If the attacking team wins the ball, they attack the goal.

- Urge to recycle if struggling to play out, or allow the player that made the pass to enter the zone where the ball has been played to.

Progression

- Extend the pitch or zone size.

- Introduce a point system in preparation for the full progression.

Un & Opposed Scenarios (15 mins)

Unopposed

- Two teams playing out from the back, one from either end, with one GK & one defender for each team in each half.

- Teams start at the same time, playing out from the back, with nobody pressing in their half, playing out to a new position each time. 

- The defender is to engage when entering the opposition half, the team try to beat the defender and GK to earn a point.

- A point is given every time the team manage to play to a different position, with the player receiving to write down on the coaching board.

Opposed

- Playing out from the back with 7 vs 4 pressing players, aiming to attack their goal.

- Makers are put down in positions as an indication of starting positions, and coaches' guidance for adjusted positions i.e. deep, high, inside & outside.

- Midfielders rotations are applied, using the area to guide players.

- 1 point for each team scoring & 1 point for building out from the back past halfway, with all players starting in their half.

- If the pressing team press too high, the team are able to catch them out with a long ball, although a point isn't given for the build, only if a goal is scored.

Switching Play

Set up

- The team in possession is to keep the ball and switch the play at least once in the starting half before building to the other half where they can again switch the play.

- A point for each switch they can make, but if the possession is taken, they do not get the point.

- The neutral players will be swapped as time goes on, and cannot be tackled, only intercepted.

Progression

- Neutral player's area is extended and now can be pressured and challenged.

- After building from one half to the other and switching play, the team can now attack the goal.

- If the other team wins possession, they are able to switch the play and build for the attack.

Combination Play

Set up

- Two players of each group in the middle player area, with a player from each group on either end of the playing area (not opposite).

- Play is started from one end, playing into the same colour group, switching the play between themselves in the middle area before playing into the receiver on the other side of the area.

- No two players of the same group are allowed in the same zone, but the other group can get in their way without tackling or intercepting, to force the combination play.

- Once played into a receiver, they switch the ball to the other group receiver, who then plays into their group.

Progression

- The groups now become teams, who are against each other. One team starts with possession, trying to play out, switching the ball between the middle players and over to the other end. - - - The defending team tries to win the ball and play into their receivers, aiming to keep possession. 

- The defending team are limited to two zones, and the team in possession can move freely between the zones.

4 & 4 + 4 Rondo

Set up

- Three teams split equally, one team starting with possession working with another group, and a defending group.

- If the defending team win the ball by sending two players to press, all team players look to make a pass into a mini-goal.

- The team to lose the ball becomes the defending team, placing two defenders in each half, to begin with.
